About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults as individuals and also couples. I am experienced in helping my clients work through a range of life’s difficulties. This may be long-term struggles (e.g. anxiety, depression, self esteem) or more recent upsetting events (e.g. bereavement, stress, relationship difficulties) or psychological symptoms (e.g. sleep difficulties, panic, anger). I have worked clinically in a number of settings and with clients from a variety of backgrounds and presenting difficulties.

I have trained to doctoral level in psychology and in addition trained as a psychotherapist. Post qualifying, I went on to do specialist training in working with couples, brief-term trauma therapy (EMDR) as well as third-wave or most recent developments in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT) such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness (MBCT). You can get more details on my qualifications in the section below.

My therapeutic modality is integrative psychology. This means that I blend approaches and techniques depending on the individual I am working with. I have a special interest in compassion, mindfulness approaches and trauma therapy. I work very collaboratively with my clients and I will review our work together regularly.

Practice description

I work generally with individuals facing common human struggles and couples wanting to resolve their difficulties. We all go through rocky periods in our lives and therapy can help you smooth a way forward. Some examples of how therapy can help you move through difficulties include:

• Understanding what might be causing problems and repetitive patterns.

• Clarifying what direction you want to take in your life.

• Exploring problems with intimate relationships or family members.

• Overcoming trauma - be it from childhood or more recently.

• Coping with loss and bereavement.

• Managing workplace issues such as stress, bullying and career decisions.

My first session

At your first session, or assessment, we will discuss what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get out of it. I will be honest with you about how we could work together to tackle the difficulties you are facing. If you then decide that it is for you, we will agree an initial time frame to work towards and review your progress regularly.

I have worked clinically in a number of settings and with clients from a variety of backgrounds and presenting difficulties. These settings have spanned hospital contexts, not-for-profit organisations as well as private practice. I am also very pleased to hear from private individuals considering entering counselling and so I have endeavoured to make my practice as accessible as possible in terms of affordability, disability and diversity.
