About me and my therapy practice
I offer short term, time limited and longer term work depending on your own individual requirements. I have a lot of experience in focused short term work (around 6 to 15 sessions).
I have been counselling since 1996, as well as working in various mental health and wellbeing services. I have also written and delivered workshops on various subjects.
I describe myself as an Integrative Counsellor and draw from a range of different therapies. I also have a philosophical background (particularly existential philosophy and therapy) which influences my practice.
Practice description
I am happy to work online via zoom or in person at my office In Bury St Edmunds (car parking onsite).
I encourage clients to generally lead the way in therapy, although I am very engaged in the sessions and see therapy as a co-creative and collaborative process.
I see the past, present and future as all important in exploring present issues but adjust my way of working to each unique individual I work with.
I aim to offer possibilities and help with clarity but always have your own freedom and authenticity in mind. I am committed to helping you find your own way forwards in a welcoming, open and positive environment.
My way of working suits people who are inherently questioning and curious about themselves, others, their relationships, and the world.
I offer ongoing sessions (50 minutes) throughout the day (including evenings) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Friday mornings. While most clients have regular slots I am able to offer some flexibility when needed.
Sessions are weekly where possible, although I am open to spreading sessions further apart as our work progresses. I don't ask people to sign up to a minimum number of sessions.
My normal fee is £60 (50 minute sessions) but I have a limited number of spaces for people who cannot afford the full fee. Please let me know if this applies to you in your initial enquiry.
If you would like a no cost, short 20 minute initial phone consultation please let me know in your enquiry.
My first session
My first session starts with some basic practicalities (there is a short contract to sign) and gives you a chance to ask any questions and talk about any worries you may have about therapy.
It then involves some very general questions, such as: What brings you to therapy? What would you like to explore? Do you have any goals?
We then have a little time at the end to review the session and decide how we would like to proceed. You are also welcome to have a couple of days to think through whether you would like to continue.
