The process is very straightforward. Come and speak about whatever is on your mind. Seemingly irrelevant discussions can often turn out to be essential aspects of the therapy. It works with having a weekly momentum where, unknowingly, progress will be happening between sessions too.
The first session gives the chance to experience therapy together and see how effective it is and whether we are best placed to work effectively. The session is a discussion of 50 minutes talking about whatever you wish to discuss.
My first session
Counselling offers the opportunity to sound off and off-load without judgement and to live a lighter day to day life. It also offers the rare chance to hear some possible life changing truths, and reflect back on things which others have not seen or were not heard. It also, and most importantly, offers the chance to experience a secure trusted healthy attachment to a kind and boundaried person who is constant, reliable and consistent.
I believe everyone would benefit from counselling. Most of us can bumble along. But why bother when there is the opportunity to live life fuller and lighter. It offers the chance to explore sensitive awkward painful feelings, memories and experiences in a safe trusted way.

About me and my therapy practice
I offer supervision to counsellors in established practice. I meet either at my private practice in central Brighton or remotely by video using Zoom. I am a qualified BACP accredited supervisor and, separately, a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist.
I have a background of many years in criminal justice, providing therapy to bring about change. I have had my own private practice since 2011, based in central Brighton.
My Philosophy
It is essential for you to feel as comfortable, supported and accepted as possible in supervision, to enable a deep exploration of your successes, as well as your challenges, without fear of judgment, as we reflect together on your skills and processes. I believe we all need to be challenged and are constantly learning from each other.
I value the high standard of supervision I have received continually since 2005. Supervision is vital for counsellors. It is basic for providing safe, ethical counselling. The more advanced counsellors still benefit from clinical supervision. I see supervision as about offering a space to enable, support and sharing, to help you provide the best possible experience for your clients.
Supervision helps with staying grounded, maintaining boundaries, with diagnosis, areas of unfamiliarity, developing knowledge, discussing dilemmas, seeking advice on trying new methods, locating blind spots as well as avoiding burn out and promoting self-care. My supervision approach combines psychodynamic, person-centred, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioural therapies.
I believe online video supervision, and counselling, are effective, meaningful and authentic. I have been using it professionally since 2010.
