About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience. I am an integrative practitioner offering different approaches to therapy depending on the needs of my clients.

I have worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist in various settings including schools, charities and residential care, supporting children and young people, parents, foster carers, care workers and have delivered training to other professionals in understanding bereavement, grief and loss and developmental trauma, as examples. I have experience of working within multi-agencies settings and currently I am working as a therapist within an NHS setting. My direct therapy work includes working with children and young people, adults and I hold a private practice supporting young adults/adults and couples. I also see clients from an Employment Assisted Programme. I provide supervision to counsellors/psychotherapists to support their therapeutic practice.

I offer Person centred, solution-focused, cognitive behavioural therapy, brief therapy approaches and mindfulness and relaxation techniques. I also incorporate attachment-based theory and practice particularly supporting more in-depth work such as trauma and couples work.

Practice description

Fundamental to my therapeutic practice is the opportunity to provide safety, genuineness, warmth and a non-judgemental understanding of the issues that people face in their lives, with a focus on their needs within the therapeutic process. Creating and building a therapeutic alliance is important for me in my work with my clients whether this is for short term or longer term time frames. I appreciate how difficult it can be to take those first steps in attending sessions and the commitment required to engage in the process of therapy. I encourage clients to discuss with me any fears they may hold, difficulties they experience and questions they may have before, during and after the agreed number of sessions.

I aim to provide a safe space in a relaxed and informal setting for clients to consider what holds meaning for them in their lives and how we may work together should they decide to engage in sessions.

My first session

The first session of therapy will include confidentiality matters, number of sessions, what issues you  would like to discuss in therapy and an agreement in how we will work together. There may be an assessment included in the session depending on presenting issues although there is no pressure  for you complete this if you do not wish to.

I charge the same rate for the first session as the subsequent sessions. However there is no obligation for you to attend further sessions if you feel, after our first session together, that you do not wish to proceed.

There may also be times that I will offer sign posting to another agency, as an example, if I feel that may be more appropriate for your needs. This is to ensure that you receive the best support for you.

About me and my therapy practice

With over twenty years’ experience as a counsellor/psychotherapist/ senior psychotherapist, I have worked in various settings including schools, charities and residential care, supporting children and young people, parents, foster carers, care workers adults and more recently extended this to work with couples. I have experience of working within multi-agencies settings and currently I am working as a work force therapist within an NHS setting. Some of my private work includes supporting clients through an Employment Assistance Programme.

I currently offer one to one supervision and aim to provide supervisees with a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space to explore their client work and professional practice. As I am integrative practitioner, I can offer supervision through Person Centred,  CBT and Solution Focused Brief therapy approaches. Having worked with both children, young people and adults, I also have experience of attachment based theory, complex trauma and developmental trauma. Some of my work has included providing training in Grief and Loss and Bereavement and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapeutic practice. I am holistic in my approach in order to adapt to the individual needs of a person and use Mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

Practice description

I consider supervision to be an important and crucial element of the therapeutic alliance for our clients so they can receive the best experience of therapy upheld by ethical practice. In my experience to date, I also recognise the importance of supervisees receiving support for their practice in their professional development, training, competencies and also in managing their own well-being from the intensity of the client work they support. Reflection in practice is an important part of the focus of my supervision that incorporates self-care, personal development in a supervisory relationship that works collaboratively and supports on-going learning and practice.

My first session

I can provide a free half hour , in person or online, no obligation meeting to discuss requirements of supervision for us both and  see if we are able to work together.
