Availability
I currently work on Mondays and Tuesdays but you may reach me throughout the week, on other days I may just take a little longer to respond.
The quickest way to contact me is by email, but you are also welcome to call me or text me.
My phone number is a dedicated 'work' number, which only I have access to and the voice messaging is secure.
I do understand that the first contact may feel a bit scary, but I am always happy to chat, even if I'm not the therapist for you.
About me and my therapy practice
I offer a safe, confidential space, for individuals and couples, to talk through difficulties and challenges that may feel overwhelming. Together we can explore how these may have come about and look at the options.
You may have a relationship issue or stress at work. You may have had a bereavement or are just feeling isolated and alone. You may be feeling depressed and anxious or you may be struggling with an addiction or another coping disorder.
I am a qualified counsellor and adhere to a professional code of ethics. I am non judgemental and supportive and will try to understand you and your situation, enabling you to get a clearer picture of the way forward.
It can feel scary and uncomfortable but with support from someone neutral and outside your normal world, it can be a relief just to talk and can be surprisingly enlightening.
I work from a quiet village location, which has good parking and is wheelchair accessible.
Practice description
My style of therapy is the Psycho-dynamic model of Counselling. Psycho-dynamic therapy helps individuals to make connections between present difficulties and earlier life experiences.
Together we will look at your current problems, such as anxiety or depression, relationship difficulties or addictions, work place stress or loneliness and isolation etc and try to uncover their roots, which are often linked back to childhood. It can help you to understand these events and the impact they may be having on your present life.
Counselling is also about helping you to find your values and choices, whilst providing you with a non judgemental, supportive and a safe place for expression of feelings, exploration of thoughts and time to reflect. It can help you to clarify your choices, which can be empowering and can facilitate clearer decision making.
My first session
A first/assessment session is for me to find out what is going on for you but more importantly for you to see if the way I work makes sense to you and for you to see if you think I'm the right person for you.
A therapeutic (counselling) relationship is just that, a relationship and for ours to work for you, you have to feel that you can trust me.
Whilst a 'counselling hour' is usually 50 minutes, a first/assessment might be a little longer.
