About me and my therapy practice
For over twenty years I worked as a psychological therapist in NHS mental health services helping people with complex and varied emotional and mental difficulties.
I work on-line, face to face (at Bideford Therapies £60ph, Bidefordtherapies@gmail.com 01237751071), Walk and Talk, Telephone.
I trained as a mental health nurse and as an integrative counsellor. Over the years I have had training in, and used many different therapeutic approaches including: Humanistic therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural, and Compassion Focussed Therapy. Whilst in the NHS I taught courses in mindfulness for mental health. I am an Accredited Member of The BACP. I have been practising meditation for thirty years and a compassionate mindfulness is core to my therapy practice.
Practice description
I will seek to understand you and your struggles with deep listening and a mindfulness of the present moment of what is happening for you and what is happening within me, offering an enriching conversation that will hopefully cast a light on your underlying disquiet. The conversation may focus on your current life or on linking the past and present; you will be in control of what you talk about.
As many people’s problems are founded in relationships with others, and with oneself, so the process of healing comes through relationships, therefore collaboration and connection would be central to how I work with you.
I maybe able to offer research based psycho-education if it would help you gain clarity of what is happening to you and, if need be, I could offer practical suggestions for skills to help with specific problems such as coping with intense emotions or unhelpful thinking. You are the focus in our relationship so I aim to adapt how I work to what is most useful for you and your needs.
My first session
Firstly, we can have a brief telephone call or a video call and if that feels okay then we have an initial one hour paid session to discuss more fully your needs, your difficulties and how I work. It's important that you link with the right therapist working in the best way for you and so we need to spend time helping you find a clear direction whether that is working with me or not. If we feel it's right to work together then I'll talk through the business side of things so, you know exactly what is on offer.
What I can help with
Abuse, Addictions, Anger management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Eating disorders, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Obsessions, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Work related issues
