About me and my therapy practice
As a qualified and professional Counsellor I offer effective short or long term Counselling for issues that may be preventing you from living a full and contented life. I currently see clients in, London and Bury St Edmunds Suffolk. I provide a space to talk in a confidential and safe setting
I have always been a good listener and realise these skills are essential to being a good Counsellor. I feel it is vitally important to build a trusting relationship with the client and learn how other people see the world in order to more fully understand their issues. I am able to be congruent in a warm and calm way and this has helped clients to put their trust in me.
I like to reflect and clarify issues for the client in a non-judgemental way. This can overcome blockages and help the client to express themselves in a beneficial way.
I have specialist experience and interest in counselling young people and find this work particularly rewarding. Teenagers have a multitude of pressures and problems in the world today and gaining their trust and working with them to build self esteem and confidence is a very important part of my work
I have completed a specialist course on Eating Disorders and Obesity with renowned expert Deanne Jade of the NCFED and this has enabled me to see clients with all types of eating problems, severe or slight, using the latest research, evidence and techniques.
Practice description
Psychodynamic – Looking into the subconscious. What has happened in the past that may be influencing us today? We may be are unaware of patterns of behaviour that may be negative for us.
Person-Centred – Building a trusting relationship with the client. Allowing the client to lead the sessions and reflecting back in a non judgemental way. Being congruent, empathic, understanding, respectful.
Cognitive Behavioural -Focusing on behaviour, patterns, beliefs. Challenging thoughts and looking at alternative ways of thinking.
Solution Focused: -Based on brief therapy. Looking at how it would feel to be different . How would you know? What would it be like?
Eating Therapy/Breakthrough Sessions
Following some NCFED training I am now able to offer clients an extended 3 hour session during which we take a deeper look at the issues involved and explore new ways of thinking.
This longer session , pioneered by NCFED, with refreshment breaks, has proven to be an effective way of ‘breaking through’ and creating a new way forward

How Do I Know If I Need Counselling?
Only you can decide if you think you would like to try counselling. Sometimes problems can seem insurmountable and having someone outside of friends and family to talk to can be a huge relief. Feeling strong emotions such as anger, guilt, fear, doubt, frustration or sadness can be an indication of possible deeper issues or behaviours and you may feel ready to explore them and consider ways of moving forward in a positive way
An initial chat on the telephone is helpfull, thereafter sessions are 50 minutes long and we will agree at the first session how many sessions we may have.
Sessions are usually arranged weekly. The therapies I use are finely tuned to suit each client. Depending on the type of therapy required you may want short-term counselling ( 6 sessions) or you may wish to explore deeper issues and longer term counselling may be appropriate for thisI am registered with the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and I have to follow their professional guidelines.
I have professional Indemnity Insurance as part of this membership.
