About me and my therapy practice

My approach is integrative, although mostly drawing on psychodynamic approaches, where we explore unconscious processes that affect us and how we defend against these affects. We consider how early relationships reveal themselves in the way we relate to each other.

What you will experience is an empathic listener, gently encouraging you to put words to your thoughts and feelings in the security of a confidential, boundaried, therapeutic relationship.

Within counselling I have particular interests in shame, in relationships in all their expressions, workplace stress and helping people towards confidence and empowerment.

I accept card and app payments, bank transfers and cash.

About me and my therapy practice

My approach is integrative although mosy of my work is likely to follow a psychodynamic approach, where we explore unconscious processes that affect us and how we defend against these affects. We consider how early relationships reveal themselves in the way we relate to each other. As your counsellor, that’s some of what I will be thinking about as I listen to you.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor, but my supervision is not limited to psychodynamic practice.

My supervision style follows the Hawkins & Shohet approach as set out in "Supervision in the Helping Professions" (2012). Also known as the "Seven eyed approach", the work between supervisee and their client is brought to supervision and examined in the contexts of each person and each relationship, including that of, and between, the supervisor and supervisee.

I completed all supervisor training modules provided by CSTD London in 2019 and have completed the required number of practice hours and have their Certificate in Supervision. I am authorised to supervise counselling students at Edinburgh University.

Practice description

Just as a therapist will be alert to what's going on between them and their client, so does a supervisor be alert to what's going on between them and their supervisee.

Supervision with me means exploring what might be going on in the supervisory relationship that in turn informs the supervisee's therapeutic relationships. Unless there are ethical issues, I take the view that therapists don't make errors of judgement so much as create opportunities to explore consequences of their actions with their clients. I believe it's important that a supervisee can bring anything to supervision without fear of shame or judgement. And to feel empowered to make their own decisions and come to their own conclusions rather than a supervisor telling them what and what not to do.

What I can help with

Abuse, Addictions, Anxiety, Bereavement, Child related issues, Coaching supervision, Cultural issues, Depression, Eating disorders, Identity issues, Loss, Men's issues, Obsessions, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy related issues, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Service veterans, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Trauma, Women's issues, Work related issues
