About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, and I offer both short-term counselling and longer term, open-ended psychotherapy, depending on your needs.
I work with all aspects of anxiety and/or depression. These can be as a result of, for example, loss, family and/or relationship breakdown, medical issues, your identity or struggles in the workplace.
I have worked for several years as a Women's Health Counsellor in an NHS Hospital (all issues to do with pregnancy and new parenthood, including loss). I have also worked for 10 years as a University student counsellor (including performance arts).
Issues that arise in my work are many and complex, and include gender identity, eating disorders, body dysphoria, perfectionism and procrastination, bereavement, suicidal ideation and self-harm. Through my experience of listening to clients with a diverse range of psychological and emotional difficulties, I believe that talking really does help.
I also work with those training as therapists. This could be ongoing once-weekly psychotherapy or simply a few sessions working on the theoretical/academic/emotional aspects of the training. If you would like to discuss an appointment, or ask any further questions, you are very welcome to phone or email me. I will call you back as soon as I can.
Practice description
I work from my consulting room in London N4 (Finsbury Park/Stroud Green area). I also offer sessions online.
My aim is to offer a peaceful, warm and confidential setting, where you are free to speak in confidence without fear of being judged or criticised. Talking to a trained professional can help you to clarify your feelings, explore them in greater depth, and begin to find new ways to cope.
My first session
Before our first session I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation. This gives you an opportunity to briefly outline your current circumstances and enables me to consider if I might be able to help you.
In our first session we would further explore what brings you to therapy at this particular time. The session would last 50 minutes.
We would discuss some of the practicalities and we’d have a chance to think about how you feel about us working together.
I would ask more direct questions than in ongoing sessions, to get a picture of you and your history as well as your life and relationships with family, friends, work etc now.
If we decide to work together, we would then arrange a contract of ongoing sessions, whether short term, or longer term/open-ended.
