About me and my therapy practice
I’m Sara, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I offer one-to-one therapy for adults, both short and long-term, in central Edinburgh.
You might feel stuck, unhappy or in distress. You might have experienced something difficult, or you are not even sure what is wrong. Maybe you feel your problem is too small to bring it to therapy. I aim to provide a safe space where together we can work to make sense of your experience.
Practice description
Sessions will take the form of a conversation where we explore your experience, thoughts, feelings and behaviours to enable you to understand yourself and your situation better. Gaining greater awareness facilitates change and can help you to live your life more effectively and authentically. It is a collaborative process, where we continuously reflect on what works for you, with the aim of finding a unique path to a more fulfilling life.
I'm an integrative practitioner, which allows me to tailor the process depending on individual needs. I draw on a range of approaches such as transactional analysis, psychodynamic and person-centred models to provide the support you require in exploring the issues with which you’re having difficulties.
The foundation of the therapeutic work, however, is the relationship between the client and therapist. Finding the right therapist therefore is an important first step. I hope this introduction, and the details on my website, helps you to see whether you think we can work together. I do also offer a brief introductory phone call where we can discuss any question you may have.
My first session
Brief introductory phone call - Free
Once you have got in touch, I will offer a phone call (up to 15 minutes) to have a chat about what you are looking for. If you prefer, this can take a form of an email. We can then arrange a time to have our first session.
First session
We will explore what brought you to therapy, what are your expectations and what I can offer. This is a chance for you to see where and how I work; to learn about the practicalities and the details; and also to ask any questions you may have.
This is an opportunity for both of us to get a sense of how would it be like to work together. If we both agree to proceed, then we will make further arrangements to start our weekly sessions.
