About me and my therapy practice

Firstly Welcome. I am Jodun an HCPC, BACP accredited Art Psychotherapy MA who has worked with adults, children and young people struggling with their mental health since 2009. I have worked for the NHS, schools, mental health services and taken referrals from social services and post adoption services. 

How do I Work? I work in an integrated way with a specialism in Art Psychotherapist, which uses creativity and talking therapy. You don't have to be artistic, just open to finding new ways of engaging and exploring. I work in partnership with my clients at their pace. 

I am passionate about helping clients not only process difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences but also to understand and explore their inner world to lower shame and increase self compassion. I am passionate about not only helping my clients feel deeply support but also to help identify and increase joy and a sense of freedom in their lives.

I work in a client led or theme based approach and always goal orientated with regular reviews. 

So what is Art Psychotherapy?  We are visual beings, "a picture tells a thousand words" Art Psychotherapy allows conscious and unconscious thoughts and feelings to come to the surface, be captured in a visual way, and then explored to raise understanding and processing. As it is a very "live" therapy it can slow everything down which can help raise awareness and attunement to what is really going on emotionally. It doesn’t rely on finding the right words but it is also ok if in sessions you just want to talk and not use the art materials.  

My Approach I work from a psychoanalytical, attachment based framework meaning I work with you to explore, process and understand current difficulties and their connection to early life experiences. I am trauma informed and have worked with a wide range of presenting difficulties. I also draw from other modalities such as; mindfulness, EFT, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Tracking and Visualisations.

My first session

What is the Therapy Process?

  1. FREE 20 mins chat to see if I’m right for you.
  2. Initial Information Form is sent to you.
  3. Consultation 50mins session to identify difficulties and goals and make sure you really understand how I work.
  4. Contracts are signed, if you are happy to go ahead.
  5. Weekly Sessions at the same day and time each week.
  6. Review We regularly see how the therapy is going and if we are heading in the right direction.
  7. End: When you feel your goals are met then we work towards an ending
