About me and my therapy practice

Hi I’m Ryan. I’m a compassionate therapist with a calm, caring nature and have a passion for supporting people who are in emotional distress. I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist with a wealth of experience in working with Children and Young People, their Parents and Carers, and Adults. I am from a Professional sporting background and I have represented my Country at Amateur level. Following this I worked in various job roles until eventually finding my way into working in Residential Children’s Homes. I have worked in this role since 2010 and as Manager, I have lead homes to Outstanding ratings. During this time I have trained as a councillor and a Psychotherapist, along with endless continued professional development in working with Children, Families and Adults. Along with my Colleagues, I also facilitate a successful peer led mental health support group for Adults, and lead similar groups for Children and Young People.

Practice description

There may well be many reasons as to why you are looking for a therapist, and no “right reason” to seek help. You may have specific aims for your therapy, or you may be unsure why life is feeling challenging. Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, you could be feeling stuck in situations, relationships or thought patterns that are unhealthy. Pain and struggle are natural parts of the human experience, but we can also be incredibly creative when it comes to trying to protect ourselves, and avoiding difficult feelings. Maybe you simply require and seek a space where you can talk and be heard. I believe that everyone deserves to have someone in their life that can listen compassionately and hold a space of non-judgemental understanding. I try to offer that space, first and foremost. I am interested in your unique story, your unique needs, and your unique way of relating to yourself and others.

Whatever it is that leads you to my therapy room, I provide a safe and collaborative space to explore your experiences. Whether you are struggling with a specific issue, or are just looking for more meaning, Integrative Transactional Analysis psychotherapy can help you make sense of your past and present situation, and approach your life and relationships with more awareness, self-esteem, direction and purpose, and let go of the pain of the past. I use a number of well researched approaches to provide professional support tailored to what you require. I will work with you to understand your specific patterns and belief systems for navigating life, how they have been shaped by past experiences, identify patterns you would like to change, and I will walk along side you on that journey of growth.

My first session

Starting your therapeutic journey can be a scary step which is why I offer a free 30 minute consultation to discuss what it is that is causing you distress, and what you would like to change (it's okay not to know). This is also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have. Let's speak about what you would like to get out of therapy and how I can support you to achieve the goals you seek. It is paramount that you feel safe and comfortable opening up to me, so there is absolutely no obligation to continue after we have completed our first session. If, after the initial session you don’t feel I am the right Therapist for you, I will be happy to make recommendations to other Therapists or services that may be able to help.
