About me and my therapy practice
Do you need someone to talk to? Are you finding things difficult? Grief, loss, relationships, abuse, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, life stages, or feeling different are just a few of the hurdles we sometimes face. Please don't feel like you have to struggle alone - reach out, I'm here for you. My name is Harjit, and I am a qualified counsellor. I offer you a safe space where you can feel understood, valued and accepted just as you are.
So, whether the difficulties you are facing are recent or have been with you for some time, I offer a caring, supportive place to be. I understand the courage it takes to open up, and I am here to listen to you with kindness, empathy, and respect. With me, you can express yourself openly and honestly, without fear of being judged or dismissed.
I understand that coming to counselling can feel daunting for some, but please don’t let that put you off. I work in a friendly, relaxed and informal manner. In our sessions, I will blend a range of approaches to tailor my work to provide a personal, individualised way of working to meet your needs. Together we can decide the best way for you to explore what is going on for you; we can talk and if you wish use more creative pathways to explore your thoughts, emotions and experiences. I warmly welcome neurodivergent clients, and with my personal experience and professional training, I strive to create a neurodivergent-friendly practice that understands and actively accommodates your needs. I hope you will find our partnership, and the compassionate challenge I offer, will help you understand yourself better, gain clarity of your situation and find a way to move forward.
Practice description
Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I adapt my way of working to what feels most helpful for you. As a qualified Humanistic therapist, my work is rooted in the principles of empathy, acceptance and the belief in your ability to change and grow towards your full potential. I blend different humanistic therapeutic approaches to best support your individual needs. Whether you prefer to explore through traditional talking therapy or would like to incorporate more creative approaches, we can work together to find what feels most helpful for you.
I believe that you are the expert in your own experience, and I work hard to offer support and help you gain insight, and new perspectives as you explore what matters to you. Through our collaborative relationship, we create a space where you can:
• Explore your thoughts and feelings safely
• Understand yourself and your experiences more deeply
• Develop new ways of coping with life's challenges
• Work towards the changes you want to make
It is important that you find a counsellor that suits you. I offer a free 30 minute introductory session. This gives us a chance to get to know each other, touch on what brings you to counselling and to see if we are good fit to work together. If we decide to work together, our work can be short term or longer term open-ended therapy. Our sessions will generally be 1 hour weekly and can take place face to face, over the telephone or online. I offer both daytime and evening sessions.
My first session
We can arrange your first session whenever you are ready. We will contract to work together so that we both have a clear understanding of expectations. The first session is a little different as it is an assessment session. During this session, I will ask more questions than usual so that I can gain a deeper understanding of you, your life and your needs. During the assessment session, I will ask you questions like:
What has brought you to counselling now?
What do you want from counselling?
What would you like to know about counselling sessions?
From then on, our sessions are led by you and are yours to use in the way that feels most helpful. You can decide on the issues you wish to explore and the pace at which you wish to tackle them. I will maintain clear boundaries and confidentiality to create a safe space where you can speak openly about whatever is on your mind.
Feel free to get in touch for further information. I look forward to speaking to you.
