About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name's Diane. I'm a qualified Integrative counsellor and work with young people (13+) and adults of all ages.

There are no rules on what to bring to counseling. If something is having a negative impact on how you feel and live your life, then it's important and worth talking about.

Maybe the stress of everyday life seems to be constantly weighing you down and you want to be able to enjoy life rather than just endure it?

Maybe anxiety or depression feel overwhelming and you can't seem to break free from them on your own?

Maybe something from your past seems to be clouding your judgement and self-esteem in the present?

Or you may have experienced something that's left you feeling shaken and insecure, and want to learn how to feel safe and trust yourself and others again?

You may know exactly what you want to work on, or simply know that something in your life needs to change and want a little help and support working out what that is, and how to move forwards?

I offer a safe, confidential space, free of judgement and full of kindness, where we'll work together and at your pace to explore the topics and events that are important to you.

Areas of special interest include:

Working with victims of narcissistic abuse.

C-ptsd

Young people (13+)

Those who care for young people - parenting/looking after teenagers can be challenging and often involves exploring your own triggers in depth to understand why it can be so difficult to stay calm and responsive rather than infuriated and reactive.

Practice description

I'm an Integrative counsellor which means I ‘integrate’ different modalities into my practice to suit my clients needs. However, first and foremost, I'm a person centered counsellor which means that establishing a relationship that is welcoming and safe for my clients to open up in is the first and most important step.

I may then incorporate different ways of working into our sessions with your agreement and permission. This is different for everyone. Some clients may want to heal their inner child and explore their childhood. Some clients enjoy and benefit from working creatively - writing things down, timelines, using objects or picture cards to represent people, experiences or emotions. For some, CBT may be beneficial.

I will adapt my approach to suit you.

My first session

Taking the first step in seeking professional help can be daunting and it's important you find a therapist that's right for you.

I offer a free initial phone call of around 10-20 minutes where we can discuss what brings you to counselling and see if what I offer is right for you.

You can then decide whether you would like to book your first session.

If you do decide to book a session I'll email you my contract for you to look through and we'll discuss it at the beginning of the session.

In your first session, you may feel bursting to say as much as possible as you've been holding it in for so long and are ready to share. Or, you may feel nervous about sharing and want to take your time. Either is completely fine!

We'll go at a pace that is right for you.
