About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m William. Whatever it is that brought you here I’d love an opportunity to hear you & to work with you, so you can move forward with confidence.
I'm a humanistic counsellor, and I'll explain this below. Essentially, I believe that counselling is versatile, it can be a vital support to manage a crisis, it can equally be a powerful self-development resource to improve your life, it can also offer tools to enable you to live well or mindfully.
Therapy is unique to each person, and how I work will change in response to you. This means it’s hard to define exactly how I work.
However, my attention to curiosity and compassion can support the expansion of your awareness and hold adversity and challenges with the care it requires. Once we build a relationship, and if it feels right, I may offer ideas or experiments, or appropriate challenge to help integrate the work into your daily life and facilitate bold discoveries.
I want to make sure you get the most out of your time with me, and part of my process includes understanding how you would like to work.
Practice description
Growing up and as a young adult, I didn’t have the tools I needed to understand myself or my emotions. I didn't know how to handle the issues I encountered or understand my internal world. Therapy got me back on track. Now, I have the joy and privilege of offering others the support that got me through my hardest times.
I work humanistically, this is a style of talking therapy I’m trained in. Essentially this means I believe you are the expert on you, and my job is to understand what makes you ‘you’ as much as possible, from a holistic perspective. In your sessions we will work in numerous ways together to support you to unlock the issues you face. This might include talking, experimenting, trying things out, working with the body, with metaphor, or more creatively. There is no 'right' way to do it.
We will work towards you feeling capable to deal with those issues without me, in your own way.
I believe everyone should understand how to feel OK and I am open to meeting anyone. I have a particular passion for men's work, men’s mental health, male identity, & work around masculinity. This applies regardless of your biological sex or gender.
To begin together, we would meet for an initial session of 50 minutes, and decide there if we wish to work together, and how.
Counselling sessions with me would last 50 minutes, and I charge £60 per session.
I am based in Cambridge, UK, at 8AKP on Kings Parade.
My first session
To begin we would meet for an initial session of 50 minutes, and decide there if we wish to work together, and how.
Whether you’ve had therapy before or if this is your first time, an introductory session enables us to get to know one another and assess whether we are the right fit to work together. This session will include me asking a range of questions about your life, and this isn’t a standard therapy session. It is a chance for us to understand one another.
To work with you effectively, I need to understand where you are coming from, why you are seeking therapy, and whether we fit. Equally as important, this is a chance for you to get a sense of me, and if you feel I am right for you.
I may ask you to fill out some forms prior to, or during this session. These will be explained fully when sent.
This session is charged at £42 instead of the full £60 per session.
