About me and my therapy practice
Hello! My name is Shabana.
I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I provide therapy to adults and young people who are over the age of 18.
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2024 and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means I adhere to their ethical code of conduct.
As an Integrative Relational practitioner, the key element of my work is to build a genuine relationship with a client through being non judgemental and respectful. I may draw on other theories as we work together such as CBT, psychodynamic or solution focussed therapy to name a few. In my experience, people are the experts of their own lives and have the resources within them to make the changes they wish to see. In some situations, we might work together to explore techniques to manage the feelings of anxiety or regulate emotions on a day to day basis that a client can incorporate into their toolkit.
I might offer challenge where I feel this is needed, for example, to offer a different perspective on certain limiting beliefs.
I will adapt my approach to meet each client’s individual needs. In other words, it is my belief that we are all unique and complex beings, so collaboration and client preference are key aspects of my approach.
With over twenty years experience as a Children and Families Social Worker, I've had the privilege of supporting people through a wide range of challenges, including those linked to past or present trauma. I understand the hurdles, and I'm here to help you find your way through them in a safe, non judgemental and supportive environment.
As someone from South Asian background myself, I have a deep understanding of the unique pressures that come with navigating cultural expectations, family dynamics and identity. If you've experienced challenges related to culture, identity or cultural trauma, I'm here to provide a safe and empathetic space where we can explore these issues together.
Practice description
As a self employed Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I offer face to face therapy sessions through hiring rooms at Sheffield Wellness Centre, Sheffield.
The rooms are lovely, bright and cosy spaces which are very welcoming. Unfortunately, there is no access for wheelchairs ( no lift and access is via stairs).
If you cant access face to face sessions, but want to work together on line I can offer sessions via Microsoft Teams.
My first session
In our first session, we'll take the time to get to know each other. I'll listen to what brings you to therapy and help you to think about what you want to achieve by the end of our work together. Its also a chance for you to ask any questions or address any worries that you may have about our work together. Its also important that we talk through any risk factors for you as my client, so we can have an agreed plan in place to help address these.
