About me and my therapy practice

I provide counselling and equine facilitated counselling.

Counselling

I work with adults with a wide range of presenting problems, including anxiety, depression and grief. I also work with clients who come to counselling to have a space to check in with themselves and improve their mental health.

I am dedicated to creating a safe environment where I will support you through your challenges and we can work together towards your goals for therapy. I offer an empathic and consistent presence to accompany you through your counselling journey.

I approach my role with the philosophy that each person is unique. I believe each of us has our own challenges in life, which are incomparable and equally valid. I see your needs as individual and recognise your story is unique. This also means I see each client I work with as a person rather than a presenting problem. This philosophy led me to train as an integrative counsellor as this allows me to utilise different theories and techniques to adapt my approach to meet your individual needs.

Equine Facilitated Counselling

Equine facilitated counselling combines counselling with interactions with horses to help people tackle challenges in their lives. I create a tailored programme based on your goals the work.

I offer short-term programmes while involve a structured set of activities with horses over an agreed number of sessions, usually between 8 and 12.

I also offer long term equine facilitated counselling. Sessions in long term work vary. Some sessions will spent doing activities with horses, others we may spend talking either in the field with the horses or in my cosy counselling cabin.

Practice description

Counselling

As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I combine multiple approaches to counselling. This means I have flexibility to work adaptively with what you bring to your counselling. However, the Person-Centred Approach underpins everything I do as it advocates a genuine, accepting environment. Other fundamental characteristics of my approach are creativity and a sense of humour. My creative style aims to work with how you are comfortable expressing yourself, which for some people might involve using drawing or metaphor.

Equine Facilitated Counselling

In Equine Facilitated Counselling, I combine my counselling approach with techniques and skills learnt in my Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) training. Equine facilitated learning is a horse-assisted approach to helping you achieve your personal growth and development goals. It uses a mixture of body-based awareness (like mindfulness), talking and non-ridden interactions with horses. The talking side of EFL uses the approaches I learned in my counselling training. Combing these two approaches allows me to help you process your learning from interactions with horses in depth.

My first session

I offer a free initial zoom or telephone call, usually lasting about 20 minutes. This provides a space for us to meet, discuss my therapeutic approach, practicalities and answer any questions you might have.

First sessions are a chance to get to know each other and think about how we might work together going forward.
