About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist, trained in Person-Centred Approach, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
I offer a warm, empathic, friendly, supportive, non-judgmental and shame free space for us to work together. Depending on your reasons for seeking support I can offer short term counselling and long-term psychotherapy. I can work flexibly and collaboratively, drawing from different therapeutic approaches, but ultimately we will work with the approach and at the pace that suit you.
I have extensive experience of working with clients across all age groups, cultures, and religions, from those who needed a safe and confidential space to discuss their thoughts and feelings, to those who explored how their past affected their relationships and decision making. I have helped clients to work through present issues such as bereavement, depression, anxiety, a health diagnosis. I have supported those feeling stuck and lonely.
Special areas of interest and experience:
- Complex grief – When the intensity of the grief is debilitating and doesn't decrease in the months after a loved one's death, or when one struggles with feelings of shame or internal conflict.
- Cultural diversity – Experienced in working with clients from diverse backgrounds, dealing with issues related to isolation, migration, arranged marriage, and other issues.
- Neurodiversity (both adults and adolescents). I have extensive experience of supporting the general wellbeing of university students with disabilities and neurodiversity.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and a BSc in Psychology.
As a member of the BACP, I am committed to continuing my personal development and self-reflection of my practice through ongoing supervision and by updating skills undertaking new learnings.
Practice description
I offer weekly therapy sessions which last 50 minutes. Fortnightly sessions available for long term and returning clients.
I appreciate that first sessions can be very daunting, so we will begin by gently exploring what is happening in your life that has brought you to therapy now. I may ask you about your previous experience of therapy, and, if relevant, we may talk about your past experiences, such as childhood, relationships etc. Together we can work towards positive change and a greater awareness and understanding of yourself.
Nobody knows you better than you, so you decide what issues we delve into together and I will provide a safe, confidential space and appropriately adapt my approach to therapy, which is:
Integrative - My formal education and my counselling experience enable me to effectively integrate my work by applying a Person-Centred Approach with Psychodynamic and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), dependent on which therapy is best suited to meet your needs. I believe that we are all unique and so are our needs.
Relational – I work with the belief that a genuine, human connection is what holds the ability to heal, a partnership where the client and the therapist work together to achieve the goals and effect positive change.
Holistic – I focus on the whole person, physical, social, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, not just the parts that may feel broken.
