About me and my therapy practice
While I practice general psychotherapy, my areas of specialisation are:
1) Couples/Relationship work (trained with the Couples Institute, San Francisco).
2) Addiction Therapy (over 25 years experience) and
3) Women and their partners struggling with the impact of pre-menstrual disorders (PMDD and PME and Severe PMS)
I practice integrative psychotherapy as well as shorter-term counselling. While psychotherapists know a great deal about the problematic patterns that frequently arise for many people, it is vital that therapy is bespoke, to meet the specific needs of the individual. For this reason, I am trained, qualified and work with a number of therapeutic approaches so that my clients and I can work together to create and implement individual-specific therapy in order to achieve the best therapeutic outcomes for each person.
In this way, there is a great deal of flexibility in designing the most appropriate and helpful course of therapy for you.
I also offer sober companionship and therapeutic services over periods ranging from a day (for example, attending sporting or celebratory events) or for longer periods of time, such as for holidays in the UK or overseas or for the weeks following return home from therapeutic inpatient treatment.
Practice description
I practice both face-to-face in my purpose-built therapy rooms and online. The practice is located in a very discreet and private edge-of-village location with on-site free parking.
Sessions run for a full 60-minute hour for individual clients and 90 minutes for couples/relationship therapy.
Online therapy takes place via a highly secure specialist medical/therapeutic platform where very high levels of security of connection are maintained. Online therapy is also delivered in my purpose-built therapy suite, ensuring complete privacy.
I provide therapy/counselling to organisations to meet employee support objectives, both from my practice rooms, online or in the workplace.
I adhere to strict GDPR regulation that meets or exceeds standards required by The Law of England and Wales and by the BACP.
My first session
The initial therapy session has four main areas of focus:
1) To explain how therapy works and what you can expect as we work together. You have the opportunity to ask questions about counselling/therapy in general and about how I work specifically.
2) We discuss issues of confidentiality and agree a simple set of groundrules for how we will conduct our sessions together.
3) To get a feel for one another, to be sure that we both feel that we would be a good fit to work together. If I believe that I may not be the most suitable therapist for you, I will make a recommendation as to who you might most usefully consult.
4) To discuss what brings you to therapy/counselling and what you hope to achieve from it. I will ask you to complete some brief assessment work as well as make time for you to describe in your own words what you want to achieve in therapy.
