About me and my therapy practice
I'm Jonathan, a BACP registered integrative therapist based in Highams Park/Woodford Green (E4/IG8). I am experienced with a broad range of clients and issues.
What to expect when we work together
For most people, starting therapy can be difficult, particularly as you may be feeling vulnerable and unstable. To be alone with your thoughts and feelings is difficult, but it can be equally hard to then share them with someone else. This is why my primary aim as we begin our work is to make you feel safe and reassured. I will listen without judgement to whatever you want to work through. I will work alongside you as you examine your values, assumptions, ideals and biases. My role may then be to highlight some of these with clarity that might not be available from your perspective. Therapy will challenge you and be painful at times - it will also be empowering, energising and change you in ways you hadn’t expected.
Next steps
I offer a free 15 minute introductory call if you have any questions or simply want to get a feel for how it might be for us to work together (link at the top of this page to book the intro call). If you then decide you would like to, we can arrange a first session. If you want to read more about my practice please visit my website (jonathanpollard.co.uk). I look forward to meeting you soon.
Practice description
How therapy can help
Most people who come to therapy feel stuck in some way. My aim is to help people to identify and change things that are stopping them living a more fulfilled life.
At its most basic level, therapy is simply a conversation where you can share your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential space. Many people often feel relief at simply getting their story out to another person who is willing to listen without fearing judgement, who is available and reliable. Some come with a goal to achieve, whilst others may not know what they need, other than simply wanting to feel more at ease with themselves. Often the root of a problem is hidden from view and so people need help to uncover this. Through a collaborative examination of your life, therapy offers an alternative, that liberation from old patterns is possible. In this way therapy offers an enriched life experience rather than what might feel inevitable, painful, or simply mundane.
My first session
In the first session I will initially ask you to tell me what it is that you want to get from therapy. This needn't be particularly detailed - there is no requirement from me that you can properly articulate what you need. You might be unclear exactly what you want to get from this. My job is to help you clarify and demystify things in your life you want to make better.
The first session will then involve me asking many simple questions in response to whatever you bring, so that collaboratively we work out what's been causing you distress and plan a path forwards.
The first session is a chance for you to experience how it will be to work with me. At the end of it I will ask whether you then want to book in a next session. I normally suggest working for four sessions and then reviewing at the end of those, to decide if you would like to continue. I charge full rate for this session, though I do offer a free 15 minute zoom chat prior to this if you prefer this route.
