About me and my therapy practice

"Nobody, as long as he moves about among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble"

― Carl Gustav Jung

Why should we see a therapist?

Therapy is one of the most positive things we can do for ourselves. It may seem like something other people do. But life isn’t easy and when it feels particularly overwhelming, talking to someone who listens without judgement, can really help us to trust ourselves,  and find perspective, meaning and confidence to enable a way forward.

As a therapist, I place you at the heart of every session, listening to you carefully and without judgement so that we gain a shared understanding of who you are and what you are facing.

Clients I work with often find themselves in challenging and sometimes distressing situations and need a safe and confidential space to explore - at their own pace - what is going on for them, to rebuild, find healthier ways of coping and to find hope.

I have worked with clients who have presented with depression, anxiety, stress, relationship problems, work-related issues, addiction, family relationships, grief, trauma and depression; above all, it is you who I am most interested in.

Some clients need a place to heal from trauma or to grieve and be with complicated feelings of loss.  My sessions provide that empathic place and I will be there to accompany you during this process.

Practice description

I am a humanistic and integrative Psychotherapist and a registered member of BACP.  My education includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling (2012) and a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Glasgow.

I offer both short-term and open-ended counselling and psychotherapy. My approach is integrative drawing on different therapeutic techniques, including person-centred, gestalt, psychodynamic, cognitive and transpersonal therapies. Above all, I remain sensitive to your feelings so that therapy always feels collaborative.

Some of the issues thay I work with include:

Disordered eating

Bereavement, grief and loss (including miscarriage)

Trauma, including physical, sexual and emotional abuse

Existential issues including feeling stuck, purpose and identity

Work issues including frustration, bullying, stress and burnout

Relationship and family issues including loneliness, separation, pressure, cultural issues, trust, commitment, boundaries and intimacy

Please feel free to get in touch to ask me any further questions or to see if we can arrange a time and date that suits you.

My first session

This is an important opportunity to see if we are a good fit for one another. We would start with a brief phone conversation at no charge, followed by a consultation session before deciding to go ahead. The consultation would normally last for 50 minutes so that you have time and space to share what has brought you to therapy, your background and your hopes about therapy, while also getting a feel for how I work.

I will be listening attentively but may ask more questions than is usual in ongoing sessions.

There is no pressure to begin regular therapy beyond this point.

The initial session is charged at the full rate and is 50 minutes long.

Subsequent sessions would be 50 minutes and would usually be weekly, at the same time each week.

All enquiries are strictly confidential and no GP referral is necessary.

About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I’m Claire.  You may have thought that counselling is for other people but the truth is everyone can benefit from sharing a confidential space with a therapist, whether you feel stuck, things have gone a little off-kilter or life is becoming draining, difficult and distressing.

As a therapist, I place you at the heart of every session, listening to you carefully and without judgement so that we gain a shared understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing.  I take things at your pace, using methods that you find most effective, and I approach each session with empathy and compassion to enable you to find your way forward to a more positive, confident and clearer understanding of yourself and your circumstances and where you can adopt better ways of coping. Some clients need a place to heal from trauma or to grieve and be with complicated feelings of loss.  My sessions provide that safe and non-judgemental place and I will be there to accompany you during this process.
