About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adults dealing with loss and bereavement, trauma, anxiety, low self worth and loss of identity. As a counsellor at Sue Ryder Hospice, I supported bereaved patients and their families dealing with major life changes. I am fully qualified and have been awarded an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling. I provide integrative therapy which means I use elements of different therapeutic approaches depending on your needs.

Aside from the traditional elements of talking therapy, I have a special interest and experience in how the body stores our deepest emotions, which often shows up as tension, chronic pain or illness. When appropriate, I may invite you to explore sensations through movement, meditation or the breath.

I offer short term (focused) and long term (open ended) therapy. It can be in person, online, telephone or walk and talk therapy which, for some clients, can be less daunting than face to face and provides the additional benefits of being in the outdoors.

Together we can work on building your self-awareness which can help you understand your patterns, dilemmas and help you make life changing choices.

Practice description

I will provide you with a non-judgemental space, to help you explore your thoughts, feelings, beliefs and fears safely. At the core of my work is the therapeutic relationship and we will work together to build a working alliance where you can feel supported to deepen your understanding of your experiences.

You can expect the following:

  • I will be listening out for patterns and themes
  • I might reflect certain things back to you by repeating or paraphrasing things you've said
  • I will be interested in your current experiences and issues
  • When relevant, I will ask you about your past and how you believe this may be impacting your present
  • We may explore any sensations arising in the body
  • We will talk about how you are supporting yourself outside of the sessions, building up your own resources is key
  • I will bring our awareness to the patterns emerging between us and how this might be reflected in your other relationships
  • I will check in regularly with you on how you feel the therapy is progressing

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute telephone/online session where we can decide whether I am the right therapist for you at this time.

In our first session, I will invite you to tell me a bit about what has brought you to therapy and what you'd like to work on.  I will tell you a bit about myself and how I work.

I am a registered member of the BACP and follow their Ethical Framework. I have regular supervision and attend regular CPD training.
