About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or depressed? Perhaps life feels difficult at the moment and you're feeling 'stuck' and not sure which way to turn? Talking with someone can help you make sense of your feelings and find a way forward that feels right for you. I can help you navigate this process. I am a post-graduate level trained and fully qualified BACP counsellor and psychotherapist. I help clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues and trauma (including domestic abuse).

I also have a special interest in supporting mid-life women to negotiate the challenges that menopause can bring and am currently undertaking research in this area.

I work collaboratively to help people improve their lives and make long-lasting change. I know that taking the first steps into therapy can feel daunting, whether you are new to the process or an experienced client. You may feel unsure about what’s involved or how to pick the right therapist. I am here to make the process easier.

I work as an integrative therapist; this means I draw on different theories and skills, and apply those that are best suited to you. Alongside therapeutic interventions, I also utilise coaching skills to help you reach your goals. Our sessions will therefore not only focus on present difficulties and the impact of past experiences, but will also look towards the future to help you achieve meaningful change. This approach works really well for clients who not only want to understand their feelings but want to work towards a tangible goal.

Practice description

I am warm, friendly and approachable, and take a down-to-earth, pragmatic and compassionate approach to therapy. At times, and if it is appropriate, I use gentle humour during our work as this can help facilitate an authentic relationship and release feelings of anxiety.

Like all therapists, I am non-judgemental, empathic and a very attentive listener. I work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds so am skilled at putting people at ease. I work at your pace to help you get the most out of your sessions, using gentle challenge to help you reflect on your experiences and find a way forward.

I firmly believe that you are the expert on yourself rather than the therapist. This means that I do not give advice or tell you what to do but help you draw on your inner resources so that you gain a greater insight into the difficulties you are experiencing in a way that feels right for you

My aim is to help you develop the skills to cope so that you are better able to understand yourself and live a fulfilled life. Therapy is a collaborative process so I provide a supportive, safe and compassionate environment where you are free to be yourself.

Prior to training as a therapist, I had a long career in government communications where I led campaigns to help people make meaningful changes to their lives. I can therefore draw on a range of skills and experience to help you achieve the changes you want.
