About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Maddie, an experienced counsellor working in the centre of Bath.
With so many different types of therapy available, it can be hard to know which is the most suitable for your needs and what they all mean. I'm a humanistic integrative counsellor, which means that I believe you're the expert of yourself, and my role is to help you uncover that awareness so that you can reach your full potential.
Being integrative means that I draw on a number of different counselling theories to inform my practice. I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all key to therapy, but instead I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet your individual needs.
The client-therapist relationship is key for building trust, allowing you to speak openly with confidence. In weekly sessions we will work together to focus on the areas of your life that feel the hardest to navigate. We'll take a deep dive into what you are experiencing so that you can better understand it. With this awareness we can explore your past to help you understand your roots, your patterns of behaviour, your attachments, your relationships with others and your place in the world.
Above all, I will provide a safe and nurturing environment for your healing journey, so that we can embark on a collaborative process to explore and address what's holding you back from living a fulfilling life.
Practice description
My approach centres around self-discovery and the belief that you know yourself better than anyone. In weekly 50 minute sessions, I will work with you to help uncover that understanding, so that you can become aware of your patterns of behaviour, where they stem from, how you relate to others and how you relate to the world around you.
My work focuses on fostering a genuine connection with you, the client, so that you feel safe and cared for. I believe in the power of empathy, active listening, and creating a non-judgmental space so that my clients can express themselves freely, truthfully and without fear.
Amongst other issues, I work with clients experiencing anxiety, numbness, stress, low moods, self-doubt, stuckness and difficulties in their relationships. While for some clients it's less clear, and they come to counselling because they simply have a sense of things not being right. Whatever the reason, we'll work through it together, to help you understand your experience and enable change.
I work from a room in the centre of Bath, where I provide face-to-face counselling sessions in a cosy and warm space. I also have a select number of sessions available for clients who prefer to work online.
My first session
Following an initial free phone consultation, our first session will see us meet at my room in the centre of Bath. As with all of our sessions, we will meet for 50 minutes.
Unlike our other sessions which will be led by you, this session will involve an initial assessment so that I can better understand what you are experiencing and your goals for therapy.
You may still be curious about what therapy will look like, and so this first session gives you an opportunity to bring any questions you still have about the process and about how we will work together.
