About me and my therapy practice
"It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey". Wendell Berry
I feel his poem can relate to many pivotal moments throughout an individuals life when feeling at a crossroad, overwhelmed and not knowing in which direction to go, moments I have experienced myself. But amidst the possible confusion and conflict felt, an internal whisper can be heard, guiding you to recognise your strength and lean in to trust with the deeper parts of self that intuitively know its best way forward.
- Struggling with your relationship with self and/or others, or feeling that aspects of self are holding you back from living and achieving your true potential.
- Bereavement and loss.
- Feeling trapped by substance abuse and addictions.
- Past experiences that influence and impact your sense of self, emotions, behaviour and decisions.
- Feeling controlled by deteriorating mental health, low mood, anxiety or managing diagnosis.
- Sexual/Gender identity confusion and concerns.
Living a vicious cycle of high stress and anxiety due to the many demands of daily life and its responsibilities, whilst pouring from an empty cup.
My work with clients have largely explored areas such as the ones described above and together, through trust, respect and openness, have navigated a path back to a greater sense of self-awareness in finding resolve in overcoming difficulties and finding new ways to sustain emotional wellbeing.
Practice description
There are a variety of approaches that practitioners choose to train in. I have trained and qualified in the person-centred approach, which passionately aligns with who I am, both personally and professionally. This method of therapy is based on the humanistic view that every individual has the capacity and desire for self-understanding, personal growth and change.
Here, you are the expert as no-one else knows exactly what its like to be you or what experiences, emotions and feelings have been deeply buried. It truly is a privilege to be invited in to the deepest parts of another's world in the hope of understanding how they perceive self, others and the world around them.
During this time, my commitment to you is to create and hold a safe, free from judgement space that fully accepts and values all parts of your individual self, as we work together towards self-discovery and overcoming life's difficulties.
My first session
Courageously choosing to embark upon therapy can initially feel daunting, from finding a therapist with an approach that suits your needs, to making that first contact. Choosing a therapist who you feel at ease with and who can offer you the right support that you require, is an important part of the therapeutic process.
With that in mind, I offer a free 30 minute introductory session either by telephone or online to answer any questions you may have. This will be a great opportunity to get to know each other and decide if you feel working together is right for you.
We will explore where your at right now and what has brought you to therapy. I will share with you in more detail the approach I offer, who I am as a practitioner and what us working together may look like to best suit what you would like to achieve from our time together.
