About me and my therapy practice
I am a Chartered Coaching Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and a Senior accredited coach with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC Global). I am a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and BACP Coaching Division. I am also a therapist and Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered Educational Psychologist who has worked with adults, young people, families and large organisations including Multi-Academy Trusts and various Local Authorities for over 30 years as well as private sector work in technology and finance. I work with new and established leaders around change projects, team building around developing soft skills, wellbeing and retention of staff. I am committed to democratise coaching and have worked with non-profit organisations with women leaving abusive relationships, and those leaving foster care and at the start of their careers and independent lives. During this time, I have continued to train, to learn, to research and to seek my own supervision to be the best coach that I can be for my clients. I abide by BACP, BPS, EMCC and ICF code of ethics to remain accountable and to promote the professional standing of coaching.
I have outlined my training and experience not to try to impress you with my credentials but to emphasise that I am very committed to my work as a coach with clients and have been for many years. I am described by people that I have worked with as warm, approachable, professional and very down to earth. Working in relation with my clients is of upmost importance to me as is a sense of fun. If you choose to work with me, we will work as equals. I have benefitted myself from being coached and it has helped me enormously to be aware of my own strengths and options as the mother of four now grown children, to progress in a demanding job and to improve my own health, wellbeing and resilience which is why I am keen to share the process of coaching with you!
Practice description
I am able to offer you a wide range of cutting edge evidence-based practice from latest research though I do not coach ‘the problem’ instead as a Chartered Coaching Psychologist I coach ‘the whole person’, meaning that the work that we do together will often impact not just on the problem or dilemma that you are facing now but it can often be a deep transformative change which carries forwards past where you find yourself now.
I coach people from all walks of life to re-discover what is truly important to them in work and relationships, to notice their values and to let these guide decisions and actions - to remember yourself again, to take control of your life, so that you feel less anxious, have improved general wellbeing, sleep and eating patterns and to make big and small changes so that you feel less exhausted, less stressed and less overwhelmed, able to take time to enjoy friends and family and the world that we live in.
Instead of achieving a work/life balance I believe in achieving a Lifework balance where we have life purpose, remain in tune with ourselves and others and ultimately thrive no matter how many challenges we face.
If you want to explore your options, or you are uncertain of what direction to go towards in your life now, I offer a safe, confidential conversational space for you to really be heard, to walk away with a greater understanding your strengths and for you to tap into your fully resourced potential.
I can help you to do your best thinking so that you can confidently live an intentional life, doing what is important to you with less anxiety and burnout and instead with a greater sense of enjoyment and purpose. This might be when working on a work project, navigating a life change such as divorce, retirement, career change, redundancy, loss. I work with people who may be 'stuck' now but want a way forwards, or to remind themselves of what is really important to them, what is possible and what and how might be their next steps.
My first session
Sessions can often last up to 90minutes.
In the first session we contract how we will work together. We talk around your hopes for the coaching and how you will recognise your goal being met and begin to build a trusting working relationship.
Although we work on raising self-awareness, coaching differs from therapy in that the focus is on identifying goals for the future with an emphasis on taking actions to enable these goals to be met. I might offer you a model or exercise to help you visualise or explore ideas that come up within a coaching conversation, or ask you questions around what comes up in the session or to check for shared understanding of what is said. I will ask you for feedback at the end of each session to see what you find useful and to evaluate the progress that you feel is being made.
I offer a 'Pay as you Go' option, you pay for each single session before the session, you do not pay in advance for a series of sessions.
Typically, I work with clients for 6-12 sessions. These sessions might start weekly and then follow a fortnightly or monthly pattern so that you can try out ideas from our sessions. Some clients book in further single sessions as and when needed, because they value the confidential thinking space that our work together allows for.
I WILL NOT give you my answers to your life, instead I will work collaboratively with YOU. I will not sit and nod silently in our sessions though I will listen deeply. I will help you to become aware of your options, your patterns, any self-limiting beliefs that you may hold. I will help you to identify your goals and the actions that you need to take in service of these. You will have a quiet, confidential and non-judgmental space to explore your ideas.
I WILL offer my perspective if invited by you and if in not doing so I would be withholding something useful to you.
At ALL TIMES I will treat you with the respect, commitment and curtesy that you deserve as an equal partner in our endeavour together!
