About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully registered psychotherapeutic counsellor whose approach to life and work is rooted in empathy and mutual respect. I have worked in the field of mental health and well-being for many years, in charitable counselling services and in statutory homeless, addiction and resettlement services. I get great joy from working with people from all backgrounds, getting to know their stories and strengths. I offer counselling sessions in-person in beautiful central Winchester rooms, on-line or through a mix of both to flexibly suit your needs.
Practice description
I offer both long-term therapy and shorter-term counselling to adults from 18 years old, face-to-face (indoors and outdoors) and online. No one is the same, so my approach is tailored to each client and their own unique needs.
I use the accessible and inclusive framework of Transactional Analysis to help my clients better understand themselves and others. I also draw on neurocience and mindfulness principles among other approaches and philosophies to be flexible and adaptive. As part of this personalised approach, I will be empathically attuned to clients in the therapy space, paying close attention to what happens between us. For those who are keen, I like to use creative tools and techniques.
I have a particular interest in the link between mental well-being and social factors, as well as trauma and childhood family dynamics. I explore with clients how these intersect, bringing a greater level of understanding to their experience and responses in the present. With understanding comes choice and freedom. I also have a wealth of experience supporting people struggling with addiction and other damaging behaviours from my professional background.
My first session
It's important that you find a therapist you are comfortable and can connect with. I offer a free 30 minute consultation, so you have an opportunity to meet me and ask any questions you may have, agree how we might work together as well as discuss the reason/s why you're seeking counselling.
If we decide to go ahead, our first few sessions will normally be spent exploring the issue you have brought and building a secure and trusting relationship. I will provide you with some information on Transaction Analysis and we will also agree some initial goals together, which we'll review on a regular basis and adjust if needed.
The survival strategies we learn early in life often unconsciously impact (positively and negatively) how we experience the world in the here-and-now, so we may explore aspects of your past.
Everyone has a unique therapeutic journey, and I invite open and honest discussions about how sessions are going, what you need or want from me, and what I'm able to give you.
