About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Julie and I’m a qualified Integrative Counsellor. My approach is warm, friendly, compassionate and non-judgmental. This enables us to establish a positive, trusting relationship in which you feel comfortable to talk about current difficulties or past events which are impacting your mental health. My aim is for you to feel safe to be yourself and to share what matters to you most.
Are you struggling with anxiety, low mood or unhelpful thoughts? Are you feeling overwhelmed or navigating difficult life events such as bereavement or loss? Maybe you are feeling overly-stressed at work or experiencing low self-esteem? Whatever you are going through, my aim is to support you to work through it and to help you to feel stronger and more resilient.
Counselling has so many benefits. You learn more about yourself which helps you to recognise your choices and make decisions which are right for you. You might adopt coping strategies or anxiety-relieving techniques which help you to manage difficult situations more comfortably. Counselling can help you to grow in self-confidence and self-worth so you can set boundaries which put your own needs first. Whatever the reason or whatever you are hoping to get out of it, I am here to support you along the way.
As an Integrative Counsellor, I believe you are central to what we do in our sessions. You have the freedom to bring whatever is important to you to each week. I want you to feel less isolated, more heard and validated. I can introduce different counselling approaches, such as CBT, to support you to meet your individual needs or goals. Everyone is different, and being able to personalise counselling sessions means the support I give is as unique as the clients I work with. This enables you to progress and grow at your own pace.
Practice description
My counselling practice is based in North Leeds. I also offer online and telephone sessions to clients further afield. My dedicated counselling room is welcoming, comfortable, private and spacious.
In my experience, people come to counselling for many different reasons. I therefore work with clients with a wide range of presenting difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, abuse, relationship issues, disassociation, trauma, grief and loss. Please see my website for more information.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a Specialist Mental Health Mentor for university students. Other recent roles have included 1:1 sessions at York St. John Communities Centre, and online outreach counselling for clients around the UK. Whether you choose face-to-face, online or telephone counselling, I am committed to putting you at the heart of your sessions and supporting you to improve your mental health and well-being.
Previously, I worked as a teacher and school mentor providing care, support and guidance for my pupils, their families, my colleagues and students in school. It is clear to me how passionate I have always been about helping people through difficult times in their lives.
My first session
Once I receive a counselling enquiry, I aim to get back in touch within 24 hours. I offer a free telephone consultation which gives us the opportunity to talk about what you are looking for and how I can help you. It also gives you chance to ask any questions you have. It usually takes between 10-20 minutes.
Prior to the first session, I will send you a copy of our Counselling Agreement and ask you to read, sign and return it.
Our first session is an opportunity to talk more about you and to explore your difficulties in more detail. I will also go through the Counselling Agreement and answer any questions you may have about it.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about arranging your first session. It can be difficult to make the first step towards counselling, but I will be there to support you.
I hope to hear from you soon.
