About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Julie, a qualified Integrative Counsellor at Warm Words Counselling. My approach is warm, friendly, compassionate and non-judgmental. My aim is for you to feel safe and comfortable to be yourself, and to be able to talk about past or current difficulties which are impacting your mental health.
We can all experience times in our lives when we feel stuck, out of sorts or over-whelmed. It may be that you’re struggling with low mood or anxious thoughts, making it hard to cope. Are you navigating difficult life events such as bereavement or relationship problems? Maybe you’re feeling low in confidence which is holding you back and preventing you from taking new opportunities. Whatever you’re going through, counselling can help.
Learning about your thoughts and feelings helps you to recognise and gradually change unhelpful thinking patterns. Developing coping strategies can support you to manage anxiety and difficult situations more comfortably. Having the opportunity to focus on yourself can bring clarity, making your choices clearer and decision-making more manageable. Together we can work on your self-confidence, identifying your strengths and values so you can begin to put your own needs first. I aim to support you to feel heard and valued, stronger and more resilient.
As an Integrative Counsellor, I believe you’re at the heart of what we do in our sessions. You have the freedom to bring whatever is important to you. I introduce different counselling approaches, such as CBT, to meet your individual needs or goals. Everyone is different, and being able to personalise sessions means the support I give is as unique as my clients. This means you grow at your own pace, noticing changes in yourself over time.
Practice description
My counselling practice is based in North Leeds. I also offer online and telephone sessions to clients further afield. My dedicated counselling room is welcoming, comfortable, modern and spacious.
In my experience, people come to counselling for many different reasons. I therefore work with clients with a wide range of presenting difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, abuse, relationship issues, trauma, grief and loss. Please see my website for more information.
I thoroughly enjoy working with adults of all ages, and also have an interest in supporting young adults and university students. I offer a 20% discount for students.
In addition to my private practice, recent roles have included 1:1 therapy sessions at York St. John Communities Centre, and online outreach counselling for clients around the UK. Previously, I worked as a teacher and school mentor providing care, support and guidance for my pupils, their families, my colleagues and students in school. I have always been passionate about helping people through difficult times in their lives.
My first session
Taking the first step towards counselling can be the most difficult, but I aim to make it as smooth-running for you as possible. Once I receive your enquiry, I usually get back in touch within 24 hours. I then offer a free telephone chat which takes between 10-20 minutes, giving us the chance to talk about what you are looking for and how I can help.
During your first session, I will help you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible as we learn more about you and explore your difficulties in more detail.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about arranging your first session. I hope to hear from you soon.
