About me and my therapy practice

Life can be challenging. We all experience periods of struggle in our lives, where our normal coping mechanisms aren't working; where we may feel lost, stuck, overwhelmed or in despair, or where our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are negatively impacting our daily life. Acknowledging we need help can feel daunting, however talking to someone outside your day to day life can really help.

Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or unhelpful thoughts? Perhaps you have an overwhelming sense of not being “enough,” and find yourself overthinking, being overly self-critical or self-sabotaging? Maybe you have work, school, or relationship struggles, aren’t sure where you fit in to the world, or a significant life event has left you feeling alone, isolated and uncertain about what to do and how to cope?

Whatever your current challenges, I will accept you exactly as you are. I provide a compassionate, non judgemental and confidential space, where you can feel listened to, supported and understood; to explore any worries, issues, fears, unmet needs or traumatic experiences that are impacting your emotional well-being. Together, with patience and compassion, we can make sense of your thoughts and feelings, to help you find clarity, recognize your worth and start living the life you truly want and deserve.

If you are tired of struggling to cope alone and feel now is the time to reach out, please contact me for a free, no obligation 20 minute chat to see whether I might be the right counsellor for you. I am here to answer any questions you may have, however small.

Practice description

I am a fully qualified Integrative counsellor, offering both short and long term counselling to Adults, Children & Young People (aged 11+). In addition to offering face to face sessions from my private therapy building near Newbury, Berks, I also offer telephone and online sessions, as well as Walk & Talk therapy in the local area. I have PAWS Therapy Dog accreditation and can offer Animal Assisted Interventions as part of the therapy process.

My approach is Integrative, meaning I have been trained in a number of different modalities and theories, including Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis (TA) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT.) It is the relationship that develops between the two of us however, that is the foundation of our work together. It is the sense of safety, acceptance, compassion and trust that we develop that holds the key to successful therapeutic change and healing.

Training, qualifications and experiences

Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Diploma in Grief and Bereavement

Training in:

Walk & Talk Therapy

PAWS Therapy Dog Certification

SandStory (Sand Tray) Therapy

Suicide and Self Harm

 Difference and Diversity

Counselling the LGBTQ+ community.

In addition to my Private Practice, I provide Counselling sessions for young people aged 11-25 and parents at a local charitable organisation in Newbury, and work in two local Secondary Schools as a School Counsellor.

Prior to counselling, I worked as a Secondary School teacher. I hold a Degree in French and German from the University of Leicester, and a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education) from Nottingham University.

In addition to teaching 11-18 year olds, I was also a form tutor and Deputy Head of Year, where helping and supporting people was a fundamental part of my role. I consider working with young people to be an incredible privilege.

I am currently undertaking my post-qualifying Level 5 Diploma in Counselling Children & Young People.

My first session

I provide a free, no obligation 20 minute consultation, to enable you to discuss your needs and to see whether I am the right counsellor for you. This can be face to face, by telephone or online.

If we both feel that we would like to continue we can arrange an in person, online or telephone session.

Our first session includes a general discussion of what is going on for you. It also allows you to gain an understanding of what you  can expect from me. Together we explore your goals for the counselling session, and how you feel I can best support you.

The first session also includes some paperwork for you to keep and sign.

If we decide to proceed, sessions are 50 mins and the charge is £55.00 per session, payable 24 hours in advance.
