About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Seán.
I'm here to provide compassionate and inclusive counselling specifically for LGBTQIA+ individuals and our allies. It’s my mission to support you on your unique journey toward healing, self-discovery, and growth. Whether you're exploring your identity, experiencing life’s challenges, or seeking to live more authentically, I will offer you a safe, affirming space where you can be you.
You don’t have to navigate this journey alone - while therapy can seem daunting, it can also be empowering (and even enjoyable) as you discover what lies within and uncover new ways to live your truth.
About Me
I came to train as a counsellor and psychotherapist through my own queer lived experience. For many years I struggled to find internal acceptance, and to understand my own identity and place in a cis-heteronormative world. It was my own therapy that helped me to navigate my feelings and find my own strength, resilience and peace.
Practice description
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy has been shaped by my own lived experience.
I believe that each and every client is unique and will need different things from therapy. I aim to collaborate with each client, tailoring the approach to ensure that you get what you need from our sessions.
I am trained in the humanistic approach, which places the client at the centre of the work we do together. This approach is non-directive in nature, putting the client in control of the direction and pace of their therapy.
However, I recognise that some clients might feel they need something a little more driven by their therapist. At the start of therapy, I discuss with each client their wants and needs and together we work to agree an approach which suits.
I also touch upon other modalities in my work, including existential therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), with a further focus on social justice and anti-oppression.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute consultation call (either video or telephone, whichever you might prefer) for all new clients. This is an informal chat where we'll talk through what's brought you to therapy and how we might work together. It's important that you find the right therapist for you, so this is a chance for you to ask me any questions you might have about me, my practice, and therapy in general.
If you decide to work with me, we'll schedule in our first appointment, working around our mutual availability. We'll spend this session exploring in more depth what's brought you to therapy and what your expectations are. This is also an opportunity for us to set some therapeutic goals if we both feel it's relevant to you.
What I can help with
Abuse, ADD / ADHD, Addictions, AIDS/HIV, Anger management, Anxiety, Autism spectrum, Bereavement, Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, Cultural issues, Depression, Disability, Eating disorders, Health related issues, Identity issues, LGBTQ+ counselling, Loss, Menopause, Men's issues, Mood disorder, Neurodiversity, Obsessions, OCD, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Redundancy, Relationships, Self esteem, Self-harm, Sensory impairment, Service veterans, Sex-related issues, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Spirituality, Stress, Substance Dependency, Trauma, Vegan allied, Women's issues, Work related issues
