About me and my therapy practice
I work with adults, face to face in a person centred way. I offer a safe confidential space, where I will listen to you without judgement, accepting you as a person of infinite value and worth. My aim is to journey alongside you, to support and enable you to explore any emotional or mental health challenges that you are experiencing.
My primary focus is on building a safe, trusting relationship as the container for any transformation to take place.
I aim to provide a warm, empathic space where you feel free to paint a picture of your life experience, perhaps enabling you to get a fresh perspective on the challenges that you face and how you might address them.
I have trained in an integrative model of counselling which enables me to draw on a rich variety of psychotherapeutic theories and interventions, but seek to work collaboratively with each client as I am totally committed to the uniqueness of each person, thus tailoring my approach to individual needs and differences. In a sense I offer a 'new therapy' for each client.
I am experienced in working with Trauma, Loss, bereavement, Abuse, Anxiety, Depression, Life Transitions, Relationship issues, Spiritual issues, meaning and identity in one's life, Health Related issues, Stress of all kinds.
Practice description
You can expect me to welcome you and accept you. To listen to you without judging you, not interrupting you to give you my opinion or advice. In this atmosphere I hope to give you the opportunity to hear yourself and see yourself in a more objective way, perhaps we could say 'in a new light'. My aim is for you to feel seen and heard. You can expect that I will treat you as a person of infinite value and worth, appreciating that you are the expert on you and adopting the role of a skilled listener, companion and helper.
I view counselling as an opportunity to take time out from the mayhem of life and to reflect on our internal world. Our thoughts which can be helpful or unhelpful, our feelings, acknowledged or unexpressed which may be crying out for our attention. Our core beliefs about who we are which may be limiting or liberating. To explore how we do life, things that we do and say to ourselves and others which may be a source of distress to us. To compassionately explore why we do what we do.
You can expect me to be aware that our beliefs, thoughts, behaviours and feelings can have a profound effect on our bodies and to take a holistic approach to our work together.
You can expect me to be patient and compassionate and to have a sense of humour.
You can expect me to treat everything you say as confidential and to store your data in accordance with the Information Controller's office guidelines on data protection.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute telephone chat where we can get to know each other and get a sense of whether we would like to work together. You will be informed of the cost and duration of therapy and we could then arrange to meet for an initial session. During the initial session we could explore your presenting issues in more detail, any additional health challenges that you may have , discuss the contract and what we would require from each other. If we both feel comfortable then we could agree to meet regularly on the understanding that we can regularly review our work and stop at any point. I do not undertake a formal assessment, trusting that we will get to know each other as our relationship develops.
