About me and my therapy practice

My approach is compassionate, collaborative and kind. As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that each and every person already holds within them an innate capacity for change and personal growth. It is your own uniqueness, understandings and insights which will guide our work, supporting honest exploration towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your problems, whatever they may be.

I work in a way which is tailored to meeting the needs and circumstances of each person, valuing the unique sets of experiences and perspectives my clients bring. Then, whilst being person-centred, I am able to incorporate aspects of other therapeutic approaches to support our work, such as Compassion Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and working with attachment theory.

Before I became a counsellor, I worked therapeutically with children in education for many years. I now concentrate on one-to-one working with people of all ages, and I am dedicated to confidentiality, professionalism and ethical practice.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) (Register number: 407353). I adhere to their Ethical Framework, which upholds and ensures ethical working practices at all times, and puts the wellbeing of the client at the heart of all work.

Practice description

Working at a pace and depth which is comfortable for you, I can help you to explore your thoughts and feelings, gently and safely challenging, to move forwards in your life with new insights, greater clarity and wellbeing.

Whether you are hoping to develop healthier coping skills, break unhelpful patterns, nurture self-esteem or confidence, or are seeking genuine healing related to unresolved trauma, counselling can help.

I am trained in helping people affected by trauma. If you have experienced a painful and traumatic event, or are living with the impact of unresolved childhood experiences, counselling can help you to understand the emotional, mental and physical responses you may experience, the ways in which your life and relationships may have been affected, and support you in moving forwards in your life with self-compassion and an increased sense of safety and empowerment.

Alongside this work, I help people experiencing issues including, but not limited to, sadness, depression, anxiety, feelings of guilt or shame, grief and loss, intrusive and/or distressing thoughts, difficulties with anger, relationship issues, parenting, peer relationships, peri/menopause, major life transitions, issues at work, and the impact of abusive relationships (past and present).

I specialise in supporting clients with:

Relationship difficulties

Low self-esteem or confidence

Social anxiety

Developmental or complex trauma

Parentification trauma

Post-natal issues and early parenthood

I am a person-centred counsellor, this means that our time together is yours, we will only talk about what you choose to talk about, and we will only delve as deeply into the issues as you feel comfortable with.

If you are going through difficult times, are feeling worried, low, alone, or overwhelmed and you would like to talk to someone, or if you want to safely explore difficult experiences, feelings, thoughts, or patterns of behaviour, please do get in touch.

My first session

When you first get in touch, we will arrange a free, no obligation, up to thirty minute conversation. We can meet either in-person or on the 'phone. This is an opportunity for us each to share some information, for you to ask any questions you may have, and for us  to consider how we might work together. This free session is not a counselling or therapy session, and you need not share more than you feel comfortable sharing. If you feel happy and would like to proceed, we will arrange our first session. Counselling and therapy sessions last for one hour.
