About me and my therapy practice
As a humanist counsellor, I believe we all have it within us to live happy, balanced, and successful lives. Sometimes our experiences, relationships, and careers can leave us feeling hurt and damaged.
We often develop ways of dealing with life that can, in the end, be unhelpful. Counselling can help us understand this.
In our sessions, you will be accepted and valued without judgment. I'll provide a safe space and support you as you explore what may be difficult thoughts and feelings. Together we can discover a way forward with greater self-knowledge, self-acceptance and self-esteem.
Practice description
The work is collaborative. I'll be honest and engage with integrity, responding to whatever you bring to the sessions. We'll work at your pace, reviewing our work regularly to ensure you are on track to achieve your goals.
I won't give advice but I'll help and guide you to discover what's going on for you. Counselling can help us see ourselves and our potential more clearly; taking away negative feelings of shame or self-doubt.
Sessions can be challenging but I will be with you offering understanding, insight and support.
We can work together for a short time or over a longer period.
My first session
In the first session, we will discuss your needs at this time. Together we'll complete an assessment so I can begin to get to know you and understand what is happening in your life.
If you don't know why you have come to counselling (and that's not unusual) we can begin to work that out.
Sometimes people come to counselling because things just don't feel right and they don't know why.
The first appointment can last a little longer than the usual 50 minutes, perhaps as long as 75 minutes.
Then, if you would like us to work together, we can make arrangements for regular meetings.
