About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I'm Emma and I am a qualified counsellor with a master’s degree in Integrative Counselling from Leeds Beckett University. Before I qualified as a counsellor, I studied for my BSc (Hons) Psychology degree, finding a particular interest in the counselling studies. I was also a teaching assistant in a special educational needs high school, providing support for children with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
As a counsellor I take an integrative approach, with an emphasis on your therapeutic goals. I offer an empathetic and safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. For example, my counselling experience can offer you support with difficulties, such as anxiety and stress, low self-esteem, and day to day difficulties.
Practice description
I am also passionate about working with young people through difficulties they may face. I understand young people go difficult times: school workload, physical changes, and relationships. I believe it is important to be supported through these challenges as all these can be quite overwhelming for a growing mind and body.
I have a background of working with neurodiversity within young people and adults. I have previously worked as a special educational needs teaching assistant with many neuro diverse young people and have a keen interest in getting to know their world and how they experience it. This position allowed me to work closely with students who have diverse learning needs, including those with autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. I believe my experience allows me to be able to support the client in a collaborative approach that they are comfortable with. Combining my counselling background with my experience in special needs education I am able to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environments where individuals can thrive emotionally and mentally.
