About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Humanistic Counsellor (BSc/Clinical Diploma), working with clients in my private practice at the Greenhouse Rooms and also volunteering at a centre that offers support for anyone affected by cancer. I am a fully registered member of BACP and I am bound by their code of conduct to work ethically and professionally at all times.
My journey into this field of work has been via training and development roles within a corporate setting, both in UK and in Europe. I have always had a passion for assisting individuals in recognising and then realising their full potential. I find that the humanistic approach aligns well with this passion: the core belief being that most people seeking therapy, through significant life events or from a difficult past, have lost their sense of self, their self-agency, their worth, and that finding that inner belief and autonomy, is the path to lasting change, growth and fulfilment.
Practice description
I work face-to-face using elements of the 3 modalities of humanistic counselling. Each person will come with their own set of experiences and therefore there is no “one size fits all” approach.
My counselling practice is about establishing a trusting relationship where we can work together in gently identifying outdated patterns of behaviour and past wounds that may be holding you back from embracing a full and meaningful life. I will work at your pace however I will also ensure that we are practising therapy and not just “having a chat”.
The expectation is that there will be a minimum of 6 weeks work together to begin with, and then a review every 4 weeks if we determine together that longer term therapy would be beneficial.
My first session
The first session will be an opportunity for you to discover how you feel in the room, to ensure that you feel safe and supported, and for us to work on a loose direction for our work together. We will spend around 30-35 minutes exploring what has brought you to therapy followed by 15-20 minutes with specific questions regarding your current circumstances to determine your level of support whilst going through therapy.
