About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm PJ, and I'm a humanistic counselling psychotherapist.
I primarily provide online counselling, in the hopes of making counselling accessible to as many as possible, though I also work over the phone, and face-to-face, in person.
I completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Brighton. I also completed a Level 1 Member Course with the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online, to be a certified Online (and Telephone) Counsellor.
I also have years-long experience as a volunteer for a national help line and employment in administrative roles in the charity sector, including suicide prevention and bereavement. My previous academic history includes a Master of Arts in Social Psychology, and a double major of a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology.
I was born in the Philippines and grew up in Canada, and have spent my adult working life primarily in the UK.
In summary, I work from the humanistic paradigm, and I strongly believe a good relationship with a counsellor can help. I will be supportive, I will be encouraging; I will be kind and empathetic, and together, I will create a safe space for you to be heard and for you to explore being you.
Practice description
I take a humanistic and holistic approach to support you; I feel that helping explore you--your thoughts, feelings, how you perceive the world around you and how it may have been shaped by your current and past experiences, will hopefully grant you greater understanding about who you are as an individual.
I have worked with individuals from their late-teens to mid-70s, both in short-term (8 sessions) and long-term (approx. one and a half years) sessions.
I do believe we are all unique, and whilst theories and studies are a wealth of knowledge and information to help guide us in our work, I believe that it is in fact our working relationship, and what we each bring individually to it, that is most important.
My first session
I am happy to give you an initial 10 minute chat over the phone or online for free to see if we would like to work together, as your initial consultation--and for you to ask any questions as well.
Depending on the service (including long/short-term sessions, for instance) as well as your circumstances (eg. if it's your first time doing counselling and want to see if it's for you, or you are a student, for example) , we can then agree on the cost from a sliding scale from my £70 rate.
