About me and my therapy practice

My passion lies in connecting with people and helping them navigate their challenges.

From a young age, I aspired to be a counsellor, driven by a genuine fascination for people’s stories and what makes them tick.

To gain credibility, I embarked on a diverse career journey, working as a bar maid, a soldier in the Territorial Army, a university lecturer, and a business advisor before finally pursuing my calling as a counsellor.

During the pandemic, I took the first step by completing an introduction to counselling course, and in September 2020, I enrolled in the foundation degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Coleg Sir Gar, Ammanford. This course not only equipped me with essential skills but also fostered self-awareness, making it a truly transformative experience.

While I currently work full-time during the day, I offer counselling services in the evenings and weekends, driven by my unwavering dedication to supporting others. Additionally, I volunteer with Cruse as a bereavement support volunteer and the Cinnamon Trust, where I have the privilege to walk lovely dogs for those who are unable to exercise them.

Rest assured, I am insured to practice, and my commitment to confidentiality is unwavering. I hold an enhanced certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), and I operate within the ethical framework of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

At LisaJListens, I prioritize YOU and provide the support and guidance you need to overcome YOUR challenges.

Practice description

I am dedicated to providing a safe and professional space for you to explore your emotions and navigate life’s challenges. I am committed to listening to your unique needs and offering personalised guidance on your healing and growth journey. Whether you are facing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or self-destructive patterns,  my unwavering support will accompany you every step of the way.

I am an integrative counsellor and will adapt our session to serve you.  I am professionally trained in the Person Centred approach to therapy.

My first session

Prior to our initial meeting, I will provide you with a confidential contract that allows me to take the time to understand your goals and concerns. During the first session, we will discuss the length of your sessions, the ethical body I operate under, and the boundaries that ensure your comfort and safety.

While I emphasize the importance of confidentiality, I also want you to be aware of exceptions that may necessitate breaking that confidentiality. These exceptions include situations involving harm to yourself or others, money laundering, acts of terrorism, drug trafficking, or child protection issues.

I also want to assure you that my approach is non-directional, allowing you to explore and address the underlying causes of your distress. Rest assured,  this will be all about you and supporting you on your journey towards personal growth and overcoming challenges.
