About me and my therapy practice
I like people, a lot.
I think it shows in my work as a counsellor.
I work with an approach based on care, empathy, non-judgment, acceptance, and a deep sense of regard for others.
One of the things often reflected to me by clients, is the feeling of safety that they feel while working with me, and that's great because I value safety as a priority in my relationships.
Communicated through words, values and behaviours, it facilitates a space for us to enjoy a therapeutic relationship where qualities such as vulnerability, trust, genuineness, openness, support and challenge can find their place.
For the past twenty years, I have worked closely with people and the issues they face as a result of trauma and difficulties in their lives. I have worked with various forms of abuse, mainly presenting in relationships; such as physical, emotional and sexual abuse.
For several years I worked in prisons supporting individuals to understand the links between experiences of childhood trauma and violence, and gained extensive experience working with individuals, families and communities affected by substance use, and with those experiencing multiple disadvantages because of complex mental health.
