About me and my therapy practice
My approach is known as person-centred, which means I actively listen to understand problems causing emotional difficulties. I work to form a trusting and non- judgmental relationship with all my clients, to ensure that they feel safe and sufficiently held in sessions to enable exploration of their distress or concerns. By exploring these together, a new perspective, understanding and clarification may be gained to help find answers, or make decisions in order to move forward more constructively. I am compassionate and work sensitively with people. I have lived experience of the challenges and pain that can come with mental health and how this impacts on you and those around you. This personal experience has given me a depth of understanding which I am so grateful for. I embrace diversity and our uniqueness. I can help you to explore what is causing you to feel overwhelmed and anxious, so you can find a way to achieve calm and balance in your life. I can help you to understand what triggers you and offer ways in which to manage them, giving you back a sense of control and agency over your life. I work with all ages and genders, adults, teens, children, family, couples, and I offer parent sessions.
I offer
• An approachable, down to earth space to explore feelings and thoughts
• A way forward, a combination of formal training and life experience to support you
• An acceptance of you as a whole being,
• An environment where you can feel safe, comfortable and at ease without any judgement
• I offer weekly or twice-weekly sessions, face to face or online/phone
• Appointments can be arranged quickly and with flexibility to accommodate your requirements
• I am able to offer confidential help and support with online counselling using facetime or Teams along with face to face
Practice description
I have experience in working with teenagers and adults, I work as a counsellor in the education sector and in private practice. In addition to my private work, I work for a charitable organisation offering counselling to adults and children over the age of 11.
I provide a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings without any judgement, I encourage and help them on their journey towards improving their wellbeing and mental health. I am consistently monitoring safety, safe practice, and ethical practice in line with the BACP ethical framework.
My first session
During your first session, we will talk through our working agreement together, including GDPR consent and I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Following this we can approach the session however you feel comfortable. Some clients like to talk about something specific and what is going on for them here and now whilst others may want to give a general overview of what is going on for them. It is your time and I will follow your lead unless you have specifically asked for solution focussed therapy.
You're welcome to get in touch if you have any questions. I offer a free 20-minute phone call, this is not a counselling session but a chance for you to ask any questions to help you decide if my approach to counselling is right for you.
