About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified integrative counsellor who is passionate about giving you the opportunity to really feel seen and heard. I believe that providing a safe and therapeutic space for an individual to talk about and to explore thoughts and feelings has the potential to create a mindset that can lead to a person being able to live a more authentic and fulfilling life. As an integrative counsellor I draw on predominantly humanistic therapeutic approaches which includes person centred, Gestalt and existentialism. This means that I will always put you as the client at the heart of the relationship and support you to work through your agenda and at your pace at all times.
I ensure that I work to the values, standards and expectations set out in the Ethical Framework for Good Practice set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP 2018 ) of which I am a registered member. This means that I will always endeavour to create a relationship in which you can feel safe, valued and respected. I believe that it is the relationship that is the most important aspect of an effective therapeutic encounter.
I believe that my previous experience as a senior nurse within the NHS has helped to inform my counselling work. Particularly when clients have experienced traumatic loss and bereavement and experienced pain and psychological distress associated with a particular diagnosis and/or chronic illness.
Practice description
I am able to provide a very flexible approach in relation to sessions.
Face to Face Counselling: I am able to provide face to face counselling from a professional and comfortable space within a local wellbeing organisation.
Video Counselling: I have had specific training in and am able to provide video counselling via your laptop, or smart phone.
Telephone Counselling: I have had specific training in and am able to provide telephone counselling if this is more suitable.
Home visits: I am able to provide counselling via home visits which is sometimes suitable for clients who feel more comfortable receiving therapy within their own environment.
My first session
I am able to offer a free 15 minute introductory meeting to provide you with the opportunity to determine if you think I am the right therapist for you.
It also provides the opportunity to ensure that I as the therapist have the relevant level of skill and experience to be able to work with you in a way that will best suit your needs.
A first paid session will always include a collaborative discussion around a contract which will set the foundation for our work together. It will also include an initial assessment using a recognised tool to provide a baseline for our work together and to identify any specific difficulties.
