About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Oliver and I specialise in working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, anger issues, low self-esteem, grief and issues in relationships - both romantic and platonic. In practical terms I provide a supportive environment, where we can explore the issues you bring, at a pace that’s right for you.

I believe that one way therapy works is by talking about our experiences and being heard. This on its own can already be powerful. Talking with a therapist can also lead to a better understanding and more acceptance of ourselves. In addition it can be helpful to get in touch with emotions that we have not been able to express. For many people, emotions can either feel overwhelming or hard to access. If this is the case then a really good way to work with them is by paying attention to their corresponding sensations in the body. This allows us to feel them and at the same time limits their ability to overwhelm us. One of the ways I work is to help support clients through this process.

Practice description

I am an integrative psychotherapist which means that my practice draws from a number of different approaches to therapy (humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, transpersonal, somatic). I trained at The Minster Centre, a nationally renowned institution with a training that has a particularly strong emphasis on the body. I started my career with Headstrong Counselling where I spent a number of years supporting clients to come through a broad range of challenging experiences. I then moved on to work in bereavement counselling at St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney where I worked with clients who were finding it difficult to cope with the loss of a loved one. I now work solely in private practice.

Alongside therapy I am also a qualified teacher of mindfulness and a longtime practitioner of yoga, breathwork and meditation. I integrate these elements into my therapeutic work to help clients regulate their nervous systems. I have a particular clinical interest in the spiritual, including spiritual emergence and spiritual emergency. I’m familiar working with clients who have experienced altered states of consciousness and who are looking to integrate their experiences.

When looking for a therapist I believe it is really important to find someone you feel comfortable with. This is why I offer a free 15 minute phone call. It should help you get a better sense of what it might be like to work together. If you are interested in having a call or if you prefer to go straight ahead and schedule an initial session then I look forward to hearing from you.
