About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Nicola and my private practice is called Brighter Day Counselling. I am a fully qualified person centred counsellor and a member of the BACP, working with adults in the heart of Leigh on sea.
Reaching out for help can be very daunting but I feel that one of my strengths is putting clients at ease. My aim is to offer a safe, friendly environment to talk about the struggles you might be facing. Sometimes it can be difficult to explore painful and emotional issues but I will go at your pace, not telling you what to do but working alongside you.
You may have particular issues that you want to work on and discuss or you may feel that things are not quite right in your life and you want to explore this. My hope is that you will feel comfortable to be yourself, to be open and honest and get the most out of our sessions. Life can push and pull us in many different directions and it is not often that we make time for ourselves to explore our thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental space and feel heard.
Life events and changes in circumstances can leave us dealing with feelings of anxiety, grief, anger, and can have negative effects on our mood, self-esteem and relationships. Sleep and eating patterns can become a challenge and we can feel very overwhelmed with keeping on top of simple tasks.
Seeking support can help unravel these feelings, pinpoint how you arrived at this place and the changes that can be made in order for things to improve.
During my training I had many hours of therapy and I am passionate about the differences it can make in people’s lives and what we can learn about ourselves and our beliefs.
Practice description
My training in counselling is predominantly person centred but I would describe my practice as eclectic. This means that my work is at the core client led but with your agreement I also draw on tools from various approaches and psychoeducation that I feel could be of benefit.
I have completed further training in working creatively and most recently with nesting dolls, a higher diploma in therapeutic counselling, TA101 (transactional analysis), PAPYRUS (ASSIST) suicide first aid training, single session therapy training and I am currently studying a foundation diploma in trauma safety.
My first session
After booking an appointment, our first session will give us a chance to get to know each other and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you. I will need to complete an assessment so that I can understand your needs and gather information in order to work safely and ethically. This is a chance to discuss the paperwork and any questions you might have.
Our subsequent sessions will be led by you and what you would like to focus on.
