About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling overwhelmed and alone in your feelings? Working through some challenging life events? Or maybe you have been feeling stuck, low, or anxious without being able to understand why? As a qualified person-centred counsellor, I aim to provide that safe, non-judgemental space for you to share, unburden and work through feelings and experiences you would like support with.
The values at the heart of my counselling practice are empathy, non-judgement and congruence (being genuine). When you come to counselling it can feel like a huge step, and one that can often be filled with apprehension, anxiety and maybe even fear. By placing these values at the centre of what I do, I aim to build a therapeutic relationship with you where you feel safe enough to explore anything and everything that you need to, in a way that puts you as the client at the core of the process.

Practice description
Through my company, Talking Therapy North Ltd, I offer a BACP-registered, person-centred counselling service. This runs alongside our HCPC-regulated clinical psychology provision which offers therapy for more complex and long-standing mental health issues.
I have experience working with a wide range of mental health issues, but specialise in working with domestic abuse and violence, parenthood, post-natal mental health and later-life transitions. Whatever the reason you come to counselling, with me you will find an empathic and reflective listener, a safe space to share parts of you that feel vulnerable or that have been hidden for a long time, and an understanding and respect for what you bring as a client.
I have a background in teaching and so I understand the unique stresses and experiences of people working in the education sector, and I’m also an experienced infant feeding supporter which allows me to spend time in hospital and in the community with parents who need support with infant feeding and the feelings surrounding becoming a parent. In all my roles, building relationships, offering warm and empathic support and empowering others are key to creating space for someone to grow and heal.
If you feel like I can offer what you are looking for then please don’t hesitate to reach out; I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation for us to find out more about each other.
My first session
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and to see whether you feel like I can offer what you are looking for. In the first session we will complete an assessment that will explore your current needs, what led up to you seeking out a counselling relationship, details of support you have had before and an assessment of risk and protective factors in your life. We will finish by exploring what you hope to be different at the end of counselling.
Going forwards, our time will be led by you and what you wish to bring and explore each session in line with the person-centred approach.
If for any reason we can't work together, I will do my best to help signpost you to other appropriate services.
