Availability
I offer in-person, and online counselling or a mixture of both on a Monday (online only), Tuesday and Wednesday from 1pm to 7pm, and Saturday mornings.
However, if your working hours prevents you from attending a regular slot, please contact me and we can arrange a bespoke pattern that would suit us both.
I presently have availability to take on new clients, so please telephone or email to arrange a free consultation. I may not be able to take your call immediately but I will respond to emails and phone calls as soon as I'm able to during office hours (Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm). Please allow up to 24 hours for me to respond.
My therapy room is based in Pocklington, near York.
About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I'm Nicola, a neurodivergent affirming counsellor with a special interest in adult ADHD, Autism and AuDHD whether you have a diagnosis, be self-identifying or just curious. Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem? Have feelings of being overwhelmed or burnout? Some of the challenges of ADHD, Autism and AuDHD may be impacting on your behaviours, relationships, work or education/study which can lead to a lack of confidence and difficulties in achieving your goals.
I recognise that it takes a huge amount of strength and courage to take the first step towards counselling, but with compassion and empathy, I will provide a very safe, confidential, accepting and non-judgemental space for you to be heard and understood. We can work together to understand your unique experiences, yourself and your relationships and explore and make sense of the challenges you currently face.
I can support your growth towards self-acceptance, help you to make positive changes and learn how to thrive with your neurodivergence as you move towards fulfilment and better mental health and wellbeing.
Through my work, experience has shown me that people grow through supportive, compassionate, trusting relationships, and through these relationships, healing and change is possible. I really believe in the therapeutic relationship and how it can promote healing.
I use an integrative approach to therapy whereby I am able to flexibly draw on different approaches to understand and meet your needs. These approaches include, psychodynamic approach, transactional analysis and cognitive behavioural therapy.
Practice description
I am a qualified Person Centred counsellor with AuDHD and a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their ethical framework. I am also fully insured.
I have completed CPD in working with neurodivergent clients and I am presently working towards being an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider (PESI).
I use a neurodivergent-affirmative approach to working with my neurodivergent clients. Alongside my private practice I also work within the NHS at a GP’s practice, and for a bereavement charity where I run wellbeing groups for women.
I have a background of 20 years in teaching and the last five years being a foster carer, which means I understand relationships, connection and engagement and the need for empathy and compassion.
Sessions are 50 minutes and are held weekly.
My first session
I offer a free, non-obligatory, 15 minute consultation either by telephone or video call. This will give us a chance to meet and for you to talk about what is bringing you to counselling, and I can answer any questions you may have. It will also provide us with an opportunity to see if we are good fit and whether you feel comfortable talking to me. You can then decide if you want to book a first appointment from here.
