About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I am a fully qualified counsellor trained in both person-centred counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am passionate about collaborating with clients to challenge unseen patterns that quietly rule their lives.
Life can be challenging, and it can be a lonely place to be. You may have people around you but still feel like there is no one that you can share with how you truly feel. A space where you can talk and share freely and safely makes healing possible.
As a person-centred counsellor you will be at the heart of each session. What you bring is what we will explore. I’m here to metaphorically walk alongside you whilst you talk, and I learn what it’s like to be you. I’ll support you to bring things into your awareness. By becoming conscious about your ‘self’ you can bring about the change that you want to see in your life.
Whilst I mainly work in a person-centred way I do draw upon other approaches when appropriate. For example, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA).
Alongside my private practice I also work part-time as a Social Prescriber for Citizens Advice Wirral and the NHS. With a work history that includes Age UK, NSPCC Childline Counsellor, careers and prison education, and supporting parents of premature babies on neonatal wards as a Bliss volunteer I bring the experience of working with a wide range of individuals in a variety of settings. This has provided invaluable insights into the complexities of how we can react and cope when faced with life’s challenges.
Practice description
I work both from home and from Heswall Hills Counselling Centre.
My first session
It can be difficult to tell if a counsellor will be a good fit for you and it's important that you feel as comfortable as possible. It can feel daunting to reach out and ask for help. I am here to answer any questions you might have and attend to the anxious feelings you might be experiencing.
At the first session you will have space and time to outline what brings you to counselling and we will collaborate to form a counselling agreement. This ensures that you are clear about what to expect from me and that the sessions are tailored to you. By the end of this session you will know whether you feel we can work together.
