About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Amy and I'm a qualified (NCPS/MBCAP) integrative counsellor offering sessions online, face-to-face and in nature.
Just like the phases of the moon, we all go through periods in our life which can feel dark. I offer a warm, safe space to work with you through your distress and pain. I'm here to walk alongside you as we explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences that are causing you distress.
I work intuitively to tailor sessions to your unique needs. I work holistically to incorporate your connection to yourself and your environment, looking at the cycles and patterns present in your life and bringing an awareness to the choices and changes which could be made.
My role is to give you time and space to help you to feel empowered to grow and move forwards and bring more light into your life.
You don't have to go through your troubles alone.
Life can sometimes leave us feeling like we have lost touch with ourselves, perhaps that we no longer feel whole or that we feel like we are experiencing conflict within ourselves or with others.
I work by initially building a trusting relationship by giving you the chance to tell your story, later offering creative ways for us to explore together what may be holding you back or making you feel 'stuck' or 'broken'.
I will always look to you to guide the work, starting with how often we will work together, establishing your goals for therapy and how many sessions we will agree to work to.
I have experience of working with adults, young adults and speakers of other languages.
I offer a free introductory call (online or via telephone) so that you can find out if I might be the right counsellor for you.
Practice description
I work face-to-face on Thursdays in Abbotskerswell from a cozy, relaxed, fully-equipped counselling room which is part of 'The Mulberry Rooms' wellness centre. We will have access to resources and materials to help us to explore and reflect on what is going on in both your inner and outer worlds (such as through using sandtray, creative resources, therapeutic imagery, games etc.)
For online sessions (offered throughout the week), we will work not only through dialogue, but I can also draw on creative tools to help us to explore and understand all of the issues you are facing.
For sessions in nature, we are able to connect to the local environment in Devon (beaches, moors and woodland) in order to feel a connection to the cycles and seasons which are all around us.
Whatever mode of therapy you choose, we will build our foundations through forming a trusting relationship in which you feel safe. We will draw on your own resources (through breath-work, mindfulness, visualisations) to help you to connect to your 'true wise self' and we will offer curiosity and compassion to understand whatever you feel is getting in your way.
My first session
I offer a free introductory session (online or via telephone) in which you can find out if I am the right counsellor for you. We can use it as an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have, and briefly talk through the reasons why you are seeking counselling.
In our first session, we will talk through the contract we are making together - to provide the container for the work - and we will work collaboratively to understand what is going on for you currently, what is holding you back, what issues in the past you feel may have 'shaped' you, along with what you currently turn to in order to feel comfort and support.
We will establish some goals for the therapy - along with how we will measure when they may or may not have been achieved. We will also agree to whether you want the therapy to be time-limited or long-term, and we will talk through the frequency you would like the sessions to occur.
Sessions are arranged on a 'session-by-session' basis, so you are in control of how long we will work together. We will also establish whether you want to access activities and resources to work on independently between sessions - and whether your preference is for audio, visual, written or reading materials.
