About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Anna Planedin and my main approach is psychodynamic but I'm also trained in person-centred practice. I'm interested in helping people find relief and movement from a place of feeling 'stuck.' I specialize in working with loss, chronic pain, trauma, life transitions, shame and sex/sexuality. I view therapy as a process of helping others listen to their gut feelings, find safety and containment and feel less alone in overwhelming life experiences. It is my hope that through speaking about difficult or taboo feelings with me, you will feel understood and accepted, and that over time you feel more powerful in how you respond to difficulty.
I also work with couples using an emotionally-focused approach. My aim is to help couples become more aware of the cycles they are stuck in, de-escalate conflicts, access and communicate deeper feelings and find greater resolution. I hold a few slots to work with couples and my rate is £90/75-minute session.
Practice description
I work from a place of curiosity, compassion and openness. I draw from ten years as a social worker to bring an awareness of power and trauma-informed practice. Psychodynamically, I pay attention to unconscious relational processes between us and make links between what you're presently experiencing and what happened in the past. My person-centered roots involve bringing core conditions of empathy, acceptance and non-judgment.
My philosophy for psychological movement is that it is embodied, relational and happens in a non-linear fashion over time in a safe enough environment. I work holistically, which means I often invite clients' attention to feelings and bodily sensations so that we don't get lost in the analysis or narrative.
I deeply enjoy witnessing my clients' processes as they find greater connection with themselves and others. Counselling is a dynamic relationship and I am grateful for the opportunity to continually learn from my clients. If you think I might be someone you can work with, please get in touch.
My first session
In the first session, I gather information from you about what you would like from therapy and whether you have prior experience seeking support. We can use this time to get a sense of whether we are a good fit and choose to contract for an initial number of sessions. After the first session, I invoice on a monthly basis for the month ahead and clients are allotted 3 cancellations every half year.
I view the first 4-6 sessions as an extended initial assessment period for both of us and check in about how the relationship feels and whether clients would like to agree to an extended period of working at this point. I find that we're able to work at a deeper level and accomplish more in a period of 6 months to a year and recommend this to most of my clients.
