About me and my therapy practice
I offer a space for children, young people and their families using a blended approach of art therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy to come alongside each individual to help them to explore their inner world. With over 15 years of experience working in a number of settings, including schools, charitable organisations and the NHS, I love to meet new people and work together to build a trusting relationship in which thoughts and feelings can be explored and understood. The added dynamic of art and play allows an opportunity for children’s primary mode of communication to enable expression where words sometimes cannot be found.
Practice description
I can work with presenting issues such as anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, bereavement, familial separation, to name a few. I have a specialism in the impact of sexual abuse and trauma having worked for 7 years in a specialist service.
I will work with you and them in a non-judgemental, client centred way to navigate any difficulties you may be facing with compassion and curiosity.
My first session
Upon enquiry, if my availability meets your needs, I can offer a 15 minute phone consultation to discuss your concerns and hopes for therapy. You will then be offered an initial parent consultation of up to 90 minutes which can be online or in person, to build a picture of your family history and current presenting issues.
Ordinarily, we would then set up a series of approximately 3 sessions with your child alone or you and your child to try out therapy and how it works. The sessions would be non-directive and each individual would be encouraged to use the space (including art and play materials if chosen) in any way which feels useful to them. I may offer prompts or show curiosity to get an idea of what they might like to get from coming to therapy and what it feels like to be them.
If everyone feels confident that this is the right path, weekly sessions can then be offered with regular parent/child reviews to ensure that the therapy stays on track and continues to feel useful. All sessions are treated in the strictest confidence, expect in the rare cases of child protection or safeguarding, for which I have a duty of care to report any concerns to the appropriate body. This will all be discussed in the initial stages.
I am to offer a non-judgemental, safe space to come alongside your child and family and navigate difficulties together in a trusting relationship, built over time.
