About me and my therapy practice
Hi there, my name is Mark and I've been working as a psychotherapist for some years now. I am a BACP Registered Psychotherapist with an honors degree in integrative counseling and psychotherapy. I have many years of private practice experience, working with clients face-to-face, as well as online.
Throughout my life people (strangers and friends alike) have always told me I'm 'easy to talk to'. I think the reason is that I find it very easy to make space for the full spectrum of a person's experience and actions without judgment. I believe we're all human and all have a story to tell. I've come to realize the healing power of creating a safe space in which clients can share their inner worlds and talk about things they may never have spoken about before.
I believe I'm a companion for part of your journey. My journey has had its fair share of ups and downs, and I know how important it is to have extra support sometimes.
When we meet I'll be curious about you, but always through a lens of compassion.
I offer short-term and long-term psychotherapy to individuals and couples with a wide range of presenting issues.
My training covers a variety of approaches and modalities, and I utilize whatever is needed to best support my client. I have experience in humanistic methods, including person-centred and existential. I've also trained in Cognitive Behaviour therapy which can be very useful for shorter term work.
I draw from a broad range of theories and methods to provide tailored support that is bespoke to each client.
The work we do together has to be as unique as you are.
Practice description
My online practice allows me to be more flexible with the hours I offer, meaning it's more likely we can find a time that easily works for you.
I use an integrative approach in my work with clients. This means I combine different approaches, depending on the unique needs of the person I am working with. I have a special interest in utilizing a humanistic approach, but also regularly use elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) in the work; this relies on the concept that we are all made up of various parts that interact and support us.
The humanistic approach is important for me as I believe that psychotherapists should have a strong awareness of issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion as they work with clients. I keep this awareness front of mind when working with issues of gender, race, sexuality, social class, age, ability, etc. We are all unique, with unique stories and experiences, and our psychotherapy should support that.
I work with adults who are experiencing a wide variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, stress, sexuality, gender identity, loss and grief, suicidality, and self-harm.
I frequently work with men who find themselves experiencing anxiety and depression, however, have not had the support or skills provided to them to explore these topics openly.
I have a particular interest in working with minority groups who wish to explore how their lived experience has impacted their mental health, realizing that often just being part of a minority group can be enough to cause anxiety. The world can be difficult, and I believe in creating a safe environment where all people can explore their inner landscape.
