About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I am Emily, a fully qualified children and young people’s counsellor and a registered member of the BACP, working with children and young people between the ages of 10-25 years old. I offer an emotionally safe and nurturing environment where you feel accepted and listened to without judgment. I have seen my counselling has provided children and young people develop a deeper understanding of themselves and has supported them in navigating and overcoming challenging experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
I am an integrative counsellor and I have extensive experience working with children and young people with anxiety, depression, trauma, intrusive thoughts and OCD. I am particularly experienced in the use of talking and creative therapies. I am interested in listening and supporting you with your experiences and concerns.
Practice description
I tailor my approach to suit the children and young people I am working with. I use a variety of approaches to my therapy including person-centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, play therapy and creative methods.
Counselling can provide you with the space to think about how you have become who you are and to focus on the areas you would like support in changing. We can incorporate this into our counselling sessions in a variety of ways using conversation, art and movement.
We all have the capacity to develop ourselves and counselling can support you in this, through building a safe, supportive relationship together where you feel heard and listen to without being judged. Together we can explore the areas of your life that feel important to you.
My approach enables children and young people to express themselves creatively during counselling sessions. The use of creative methods can empower children and young people to process and express how they are feeling, without needing to use words, as they explore their life experiences and are supported therapeutically. I incorporate learning about body sensations, the nervous system, behaviours, thoughts and use body focused techniques such as breathing and using sensory objects. This can assist you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself and managing whatever might be concerning you.
My first session
Finding the right support can be difficult. I offer a free 30-minute telephone call so we can talk together about what kind of support you are looking for, what I offer as a counsellor and discuss what counselling looks like.What I can help with
